Sick of non wavers
Waving reminds me of back when I drove air-cooled VWs--we waved at each other then (back in the 80's/90's)
But with the Mini, I wonder how regional it is. I'm pretty sure i drive the only Mini in my town of about 6,000 people. There are two other Minis I know of in neighboring towns (I live in rural central new England). So generally, i see another Mini about every 10 days. I wave, they usually don't.
Now, if I go out to Amherst/Northampton (5-college area), there are so many 20 year old girls driving the Minis their parents bought them for school, and these kids don't wave.
Still, I wave on!! And love it when people wave back.

"You know what i love about them freshman chicks man... I get older they stay the same age... yes they do yesss they do..."
I have to say I am a waver. However like so many on here may return rate is about one in six. It seems like most of the none wavers are 50 to 60 (except one man that I pass ever day).
My wife had a conversation with the dealer the other day while waiting for service to be done, and they beleive it is the market segment that would normally be buying a toyota or honda commuter car. But opted for the MINI for mileage.

So, brand new to this, and I've been itching to wave, so much that in my previous car, I kept having to remind myself "if I wave at that MINI, being in this truck, they're not going to get it...*sigh*". So, I've done two waves so far and NEITHER waved back. One was some chick that looked my age (20s), no avail. This morning was a fellow LsB MCS, no avail, and he was all old and cute so I figured he'd wave back to some 20-something chick waving at him
There has been a Sparkling Silver Clubman around my area a lot, I keep hoping I'll see him at a light or in passing. Maybe another Clubbie will wave
I feel like we're the oddball sibling of the MINI family that's often forgotten, even though we're awesome.

Hmmmm... has it ever occurred to you guys that maybe the other driver didn't see you? When I'm driving with my wife she'll point out other mini's on the road that I never even noticed! So, give the non-wavers a break and assume the best! Matter of fact, mini owners I know are perfectly willing to talk endlessly about their car given the slightest of opportunity so they sure aren't going to be "snobbish" and not return a wave - that's like talking about the mini!
i think i remember the hooes road, i was headed up towards 7100 and you away from it. i flashed my lights it think.
Im not to big on the car scene anymore but i definitely stop by kingstowne on mondays. We should represent mini... They all hate on the mini until they witness the 18psi :-).
Regarding MINIs parking next to each other...
It always makes me think of the movie "I, Robot" with Will Smith, when they are talking about why androids will group closely together in a dark room (as a sign of sentience). I am always drawn to park next to another MINI, even if the lot is completely empty except for that car. Then I stick a West Coast Mini club card on their window.

Oops, double post - slow browser today.

I feel a little silly to initiate a wave since I never (until yesterday) see anyone else doing it. At least not for the MINI thing - in certain neighborhoods everyone waves assuming you live there. Smiles are about as far as I go and I'm pretty generous with them. But yesterday another PW waved and I waved back. It was nice!

and what happens in kingstowne on mondays?
When I was growing up, my parents always waved at cars like theirs, so I've never felt weird about waving. When I'm driving one of my MGs, I wave at any British car! The wave return rate from an MG is 90%!

I dont' know if I'll end up being one of the 'non-wavers' later when I get mine. But most days, I'm not looking around at other cars while I'm driving. Plus, honestly, I'm buying the car cause its a fun car not cause of the 'mini social network' on the road.
That drive home from work is my time to unwind and just listen to the tunes or maybe....enjoy the drive? And I'm just not really looking around searching for another Mini to wave to cause I need to feel like I belong to something, and if they dont' respond, I'll talk negatively about them.
Got my first wave
PS ClubmanS. Made me so happy!
I'm not going to get bent out of shape over non-wavers, but it's part of the fun of owning a MINI. And heck, they tell you about it, so it's not like some crazy is waving and it's some secret that only some people know about. It's something fun that MINI tries to do to put a smile on someone's face. The world is wrapped way too tight these days if someone just glares at you when sitting at a traffic light because you waved at them. Everyone could use a smile in their life and that's why I support waving

I have found the perfect way to wave at other Mini's;
Just wave at the Mini, and Smile, but don't make eye contact so
you will never know if they did not return the wave and smile back
to you.
This way you can't get upset if the other Mini did nothing . . . . . .

More Wavers
There are not alot of MINIs here but i'm at about 90% waving response. The mix is fron 70's down to 20's for ages. Its fun and since I stopped riding my bike I really missed the waving part until I bought the MINI. When my top is down I get waves even from non MINIs.
I am glad to have found this thread as I was wondering if there was a MINI thing. When I had my old Jeep CJ, it was a simple two fingers up off the wheel and a nod, return rate was like 90%, lol.
Gonna have to give this a shot now that I know, I just wasn't sure because I have never had it initiated.

The other day I passed a Cooper on the right, with a female passenger in conversation with the driver. Once I was next to them, she looked over at me, then looked away just as I waved, she looked back just as I put my hand down, and I just smiled.
She just continued to look at me in a semi-bewilderment state. Definitely a non-waver. A little dejected, but it was funny.
