Last night it was raining really hard and I was doing highway driving. It was scary as ****. Terrible visibility because the wiper blades are done. Hydroplaning on a rain drop because my P Zero's are into the secondary rubber. I was forced to go at or below the speed limit :-(

So today, I got new wipers (swear by Michelin blades from Costco) and I will put my winter tires on.

well needed brakes. '13R604S. 50K miles. I think the original owner mainly had poor braking practice in a salty area.

Looks like the salt got the money's worth of the rotors. Amazing that the driver never notice the reduction in stoping distance?

Oh I noticed. Around town no problems at all....but coming down from 90 on an offramp or something, you could tell there was more to be desired as you got into the pedal.

poor man's vibra-technics motor mount

Here is my personal experience with the Superpro spacer for the OEM motor mount. Despite my guarded reservation I want to find out for myself as it is only $12.75 on sale.

I didn't do anything with my mini today but will do tomorrow. I need to change my car battery. I have tested this using an automotive multimeter. I have selected that multimeter from this list Best Automotive Multimeter Reviews 2018. I was selected innova 3340 automotive multimeter. I think it is a good multimeter and can detect car battery problem.

New tie-rod assemblies, along with new end links all the way around to complete my suspension rehab project; replacement of my struts, shocks, shock mounts, axles, inner/outer ball joints, LCA bushings (Powerflex), sway bar bushings & engine mounts.

MINI's handling characteristics back to "as new," and all background noise (cabin rattling) has disappeared.

Dechrome

Dechromed the Justa. Took door handles and boot handle off and stripped the chrome off. Also did the grille moldings. Put a stripe kit on the belt moldings. Painted the wing emblems. Only thing left is the “Cooper” emblem and exhaust tip.

Finished installing the driver side graphic I've been working on for a week. I cut all my own vinyl at home on my kitchen table with a paper cutter (I'm cheap as hell, and enjoy suffering).

Now to do the passenger side.

Removed the water pump yesterday. It took almost 8 hours to get it out. I had one of the torx in the wheel well strip. It took about almost 4 hours to get that straitened out. Tried cutting a slot in it for a flat head screwdriver and the soft metal stripped again. I ended up welding a nut to it. It had rusty threads.

I also ran into one of the engine mount bolts that had rust but I was able to get it out with some penetration oil, a little heat, and lot of sweat. I chased the threads on the frame and wire brushed the bolt.

The actual removal was a PIA but after I got it out I decided to call it a day. I reinstalled the pump I got from ECS, friction pulley, and installed a new serpentine belt in about 2 hours this morning. The hardest part was putting the bolts in the friction pulley - lining up the holes in the pulley with the water pump holes was a challenge.

A few months back it was the thermostat and now it is the water pump. Next month it should have 56K miles on it and will be due an oil change.

a trip to electronics surplus store

It was sunny and dry so we went for a drive to an electronics surplus store.

Surplus Gizmos

it is fun just to decipher what some of the contraptions are

an vintage Tek scope perfect for mid century movie props

tones of vacuum pumps

guts of avionics

Lucky me, I left the store without buying anything.

I've been to that store a few times. Usually regret purchasing anything because for the most part you can buy a lot of it elsewhere for less money. It is pretty interesting seeing what Intel and other high tech companies have tossed into the bin.

When I travel overseas or to other states, I will brake for stores like this. Bangkok has an area that has many blocks and you can spent a day there. Similarly in many China's major cities, especially Shenzhen. Hong Kong has a street but now is not so good. Tokyo has Akihabara that was fun when Japanese consumer electronics were the best.
