License plate won't fit existing holes

I have read about front license plate adapters that work on the tow hook to avoid putting holes in the front bumer. However, my mini (just bought used) already has two holes in the front bumper. But they are 10 1/2 inches apart and my U.S. license plate's holes are 7 inches.

Does anyone know of an adapter frame? My web searches haven't turned up anything. Maybe just check with my local auto parts store?

Thanks!

If I understand correctly what you are saying, the holes are for attaching the license plate bracket, not the license plate itself.

Sounds like someone had a euro plate on there. The dealer has a front plate holder if you need one.

An OEM plate holder actually has 4 mounting points to attach it. The narrow ones are about 6" wide, and the wider ones are about 10"....so maybe someone mounted one using the lower "wider" points.

When I bought my car (w/30K miles on it) some less-than-brilliant person had attached the front plate to the bumper cover using the one of the two holes for the plate mount and drilled the other. License plate was off-center and looked like hell. And . . . to top it off, the license plate mount was still in the plastic in the boot.
