What's that sound called???
I've just upgraded my stock air filter with a large cone filter. Now, I've got a Sucking Swoosh sound when I accellerate, and a High Pitched Whine when my foot is taken off the pedal following accelleration.
I know these are normal, but what causes them? Thanks. |
Well, the sucking sound is just the normal sound of air going into the engine. A stock intake muffles that sound so you cannot hear it. That is why stock intakes are sometimes called intake mufflers.
If you had an R53, I'd say that the wine was the s/c, but you'd already know that. With a Clubman, the wine could just be part of it's normal operation that was, again, muffled by the stock intake. Perhaps it is the crank spinning around. |
Is the high pitched whine a quick spirt? Or a longer lasting sound?

First sound is the turbocharger, second is the bypass valve.

The new filter has definitely added some punch to my horses! |
