Jay Leno's prediction on future collectible cars

Hey mentions the Mini is cute, and anything cute has a good chance of being a collectible in the future:

He listed off a few:

McLaren F1, first gen Prius, First gen Miata, first gen Ford Taurus, Corvettes, Honda Insight, Pontiac Aztec, Cadillac CTS-V, Hummer H2, Cadillac Escalade, MINI, and anything else "that your girlfriend thinks is cute."

The possibility for the Mini is strong considering that it has one of the highest resale value (if not the highest). This car got emotions and strong following.

i think it has a lot to do with how the car is produced and how unique it is. i say it has a great shot.

Plymouth Prowler, anyone?

Looks absolutely unique with a distinct retro style that anyone would be happy to be seen in (PT Cruiser: fail, Prowler: win)

Less than 12,000 made.

Have you ever noticed how a Prius looks a bit like a miniature Aztec?

"But when we’re all driving hydrogen cars, someone will say, “Look at that thing. What the hell is that?” The Hummer will be the ’59 Cadillac of 2025."

I'm not so sure about that. For one thing, 16 years isn't really long enough for a car to become collectable. Also, when we are all driving hydrogen cars, will there be gasoline to run old cars with?

It is just as likely that by the time Hummers are old enough to be collectable, people will be feeling the consequences of global warming and looking back at the gas guzzlers of today with hatred and scorn.

Hey, to each their own!
Had an Aztek, loved the odd looks. It came with every option except AWD and I paid 22k brand new for it. Was the most comfortable crossover.
Now on the other hand, the car was a piece of flippin crap.
10k - both rear wheel bearings let go
13k - tires start wearing bad and start sounding like off road tires
20k - air conditioning lets go
22k - front wheel bearings let go
thankfully, it was totaled in an accident.
Saved me from further embarrassment of owning an American made car!
