Jay Leno's Garage

Jay announced this week's garage queen--the MINI E!

How'd he get it? Well, he IS on the west coast, and he CAN afford the $800 lease, I guess...

MINI probably let him borrow it for a day or so just like the 2009 Porsche Carrera PDK that also has a video up there.

I hope so--if the whole point is to have "real-world" testing, I don't see how being tucked away amid a couple hundred (?) other cars. I can't visualize him driving one, anyway.

damn lucky him. hes gunna have fun in retirement.

daffodildeb Mar 10, 2009 01:00 AM

What retirement? When his new show opens this fall, he'll be working harder than ever--longer time slot!

Well, at least he'll be able to get into his jammies an hour earlier...

Under the bonnet it looks like Back To The Future:wink:

I like Jay alot.. he's a genuine 'car guy'. From various television shows and the videos on his site, he proves that he really knows about the cars he owns.

Maybe he'll pay someone to drive it for the year? Me, please.

A video with him driving the car and talking to the project engineers:

I like his 1909 Baker better than the MINI-E... but that's just me.

Are the graphics on MINI-E's vinyl? Cause I'd be peeling that crap off.

"No, honest, I don't know how it got that way!"

Gromit801 Mar 10, 2009 10:11 AM

I suspect the MiniE will get a lot of use. Not only by Jay, but the guys in the garage as well.

Pretty cool video, I love when he tries to do a 180. I wonder if he forgot to turn the traction control off.

You know it occurs to me that Jay Leno would probably make pretty good host for an American Top Gear. (I know, I know. It's already been talked about to death, I'm just sayin' is all.)

Absolutely, but I sure wish he'd learn how to pronounce "Porsche." http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...smiley-030.gif

BTW, did anyone see the gaggle of old Beetles and Vanagons he passed during the testdrive?

I love his interview with AutoWeek a couple of years ago. The author said that after the interview was over Jay just asked if the writer would not make him sound like some kind of "rich *********". Gotta like a guy who knows what to call rich collectors.
