Am I asking too much? I don't think so...

Just wanted another opinion. I'm asking $25k (and would probably take a little less if offered) for my 05 MCS with JCW engine/exhaust/intake pkg. Basically every option except for Nav.

Just clicked to 10k miles this week. I've received a lowball offer that kind of made me mad.... KBB even has it listed as $25,125 private party.

Sorry, maybe I'm just venting, but I think that is reasonable. Thoughts?

Considering people can buy a brand new MINI for that much,
they would probably opt for the new one over a used one, despite
any modifications you may have added.

MarcoEsc Oct 9, 2008 04:51 PM

KBB prices are known to be absurdly high. We bought our '05 MCSc over a year ago for more than $6K under KBB.

Good luck with your sale. You may have to lower your price. But they say these cars are in far higher demand these days, so who knows.

MrCooperS Oct 9, 2008 06:06 PM

I think 25K is a bit high. and KBB isn't always accurate. Since it's JCW I don't think it should go anywhere under 20K - 21K.

lovethecorners Oct 9, 2008 07:09 PM

To be honest, I wouldn't go for much less than 25k, but it all depends on how long you can wait. There are many people out there who prefer the 02-06 over the 07+ Minis (I just bought an 06 while I could have gotten an 07 for the same money. Serious where were you when I was looking for mine!). The low mileage is a plus, JCW (a $6k option with install!) is what makes it. If it is important to sell soon, than you may have to sacrifice price as most won't appreciate what it has. Otherwise I'd stay close to your price and give it a little time.

Lippy Oct 9, 2008 07:13 PM

Even though this car was $32k new and only has 10k miles on it?

Yeah, I'm in no rush. This is more what I was thinking.

MrCooperS Oct 9, 2008 07:17 PM

Lippy! Can't you sell the GLi instead?!?

Even with 10K miles, your car depreciates in value every year because it gets older. But with low mileage, the depreciation won't be as significant. Like lovethecorners said, if you can wait it out, sell it for 25K (or 24K) for the right buyer who appreciates the R53 and the JCW. If you need to get rid of it quick, you be the judge.

lovethecorners Oct 9, 2008 08:58 PM

itsminidrmer, you following me 'round NAM!

For reference, take a look at this 2005 MCS with 31k miles at Main Line:
http://www.minimainline.com/VehicleDetails/1061535424
They'll probably get less for it, but it is still a good comparison: significantly more mileage, significantly fewer features, not that much less money (although many people prefer going through a dealership).

Try matching the Nadaguides price. That is a little more reasonable. You're also going into fall/winter when smaller cars aren't in fashion for the cold weather coming.
I'd wait until spring, then highball it for a month and see what happens.

edmunds.com has more true value cars.

that price is close to a new.. i'm sure yours is great !!! but i would buy new with a warrenty if i was spending that much..

hey.. you asked.. LOL

good luck.. someone will want it.

Apple Oct 11, 2008 05:07 AM

I just traded mine 08 paid 23400, got 22K .

freez3 Oct 11, 2008 05:27 AM

Often that low ball offer is just a starting point... they're testing the water... looking to see if you'll move off your asking price. I almost always give a low ball offer just to see how willing the seller is to negotiate. Don't be put off by a low offer. If your price is firm, just say so.

Crashton Oct 11, 2008 05:52 AM

If I was in the market for a new MINI I'd be looking at yours. Nice car!

No I wouldn't pay your asking price, but I'm sure we could come to an agreement. There people out there that want a like new MINI & don't want an R56. That is your market, now you just have to find them. I think you are looking in the right place.

Good luck with your sale.

Even though your car is in perfect condition, with very low miles, it's still a four year old car, as the 2009 model year MINIs are already out. Your asking price is between 75% - 80% of the original price. This may be overly optimistic, even for a MINI. Also, times are tough out there right now, there just aren't the buyers there were a few months ago. Everyone's sitting tight, putting off any major purchases until the current economic woes sort themselves out. The situation may be better in a few weeks, a few months, a few years, or a few decades. No one knows for sure right now.

annasassy86 Oct 12, 2008 04:51 PM

my question is how do you only have 10000 miles on it?? i have an 08 and already have 7000 miles!!

Jtrem Oct 12, 2008 05:59 PM

I think the Price is a tad High considering Ive seen some GP's go for around 27-28k. I think you would be able to move it at 22k. Remember its gunna be hard to move any car in this economy.

MINIdave Oct 12, 2008 06:32 PM

Every day it will be worth less too, sad but true. You'd really have to find the right buyer to get that much for it, just my opinion ........I'd just drive it enjoy it and get your value out of it. It's a car, not an investment - at least in our lifetimes.

True that!

texasmontego Oct 12, 2008 07:40 PM

There's an A$$ for every Seat.

If that is what you want, you just have to be patient for the right buyer.

gjhsu Oct 12, 2008 10:44 PM

Also consider the economy. People are hanging onto their pennies a bit harder these days. You may want to hang on to it until the economy settles down, if you can.
