Cool!
Cakes are the best. Just light 'em and leave 'em.

Although, the re-loadables make a nice bang when they go off.

Hmm... am guessing Tire Rack might know.

I think so too.... though I had one tip over at New Years this year... that was, um, exciting.

Oh man... when they fall over, you better run!

This one spun on every shot... so they were firing in random directions... yikes... was funny only because no one got hit.. but coulda been ugly...

Usually when mods are discussed here we all like to chime in and request pictures.

I think this type of mod requires a video post!

Say... I thought aerial fireworks were verboten in the state of North Carolina.. Have you been running across the border?? Hmmmmm???

BlimeyCabrio Jun 19, 2008 12:54 PM

Why, no.... do people actually DO that? :sly:

Still have enough Confederate blood in me to believe it's my God-given right to kill myself and all my heirs, as long as I say "Hey y'all, watch this!" first.

Definitely coulda been...
When we do our shows, the spectators are all at a safe distance so there is no risk of anyone getting hurt if one should fall over.

Bwahaha... Yeah I was in Asheville last year for the 4th and didn't realize the crappy laws. Shame it was late or else I would've went back to SC for some good stuff. This year, it's on.

We always tilt those, "fountains" as we call them, at an angle or on thier side intentionally with lots of bricks to hold and support them. Sometimes we point them at stuff to burn and melt. It is also fun to put those black cat strips into paper bags, or hung from a tree, artillery shells in thick cardboard boxes is awesome too.

Yeah... I always thought we did, too... but those suckers go FAR, whether vertical or horizontal...

I'm building a weighted base platform (2x2 piece of plywood) with a 2x6 corner attached and a strap to hold the things in there... so they CAN'T fall over ever again...

We had some mortars one year and found a nice steel pipe with concrete at one end and an opening on the other. Just the right diameter too. Good thing we lived in the middle of nowhere....

We just nail the individual ones(either re-loadables or one-shots) to the plywood with some finishing nails.
The cakes we get are big enough to be good on their own. Me and my co-lighter are pretty good about making sure they are stable enough to go.

Again... I always thought the ones I used were, also... big 9, 16 and 25 shots that seem pretty stable and base-weighted... but I've actually watched them "bounce" off the pavement/ground from the recoil of firing... one bad bounce outta a few thousand shots and....

Ah, and you guys are behind the wheel, huh? Scary people. BlimeyCabrio - you are DEFINITELY from NC!!!!!

When I was younger I worked for a company that supplied most of the consumer fireworks to the reservations of Washington state - I can say with absolute certainty - that 99% of the <insert consumer brand of product here> fireworks were not licensed by the original product manufacturer.

We bought most of our product from China - and we used to get some pretty blatant product ripoffs through the warehouse.

I've also got some really cool stories about sparkler bombs - but I don't want to post them on the internet for fear of the CIA showing up at my door:nod:
