Thats freaking IT! I'VE HAD IT!

For the 3rd time i was coming home tonight and some moron in a giant white mini van thought he could cut across the opposite direction lane and jump in front of me and go from esentially a dead stop at a stop light to ahead of me in 3 seconds....he came within three inches of me....he needed to wash his van! And when i hit my horn i got no reaction what so ever (but the one bird salute did get his attention). I have decided to get the dual air horn from MINI Mania, from now on when i hit my horn i want a reaction!

cabrown Feb 26, 2008 02:26 AM

I don't understand. Are you upset at the driver and the way he/she conducts their van or that you didn't get a reaction from the driver when sounding your MINI's horn?

yellowbritishrocket Feb 26, 2008 02:35 AM

both...but more at the driver though it isnt the first time ive used my horn and get no reaction...i did it once but it didnt stop someone from almost sideswiping me once before

HURRAY FOR AIR HORNS!!!!!
that'll get 'em

Dan00Hawk Feb 26, 2008 05:53 AM

I like how you described the "giant mini van". You should go have a massive small coffee to settle your nerves after something like that!

yellowbritishrocket Feb 26, 2008 06:00 AM

well mini van is what they are called...i think it was one of those new dodge grand caravans

my brother has a set of train horns in his Tacoma and from what i saw was when he hit those horns he got the idiots attention

kgdblu Feb 26, 2008 06:35 AM

the air horns work, believe me I've had one in my car for 4 1/2 years. Leave the stock one attached for even more decibels, but be sure to carry 15 amp fuses with you. At least on my rattletrap '02, if I lean on the horn for more than 10 seconds, it'll blow a fuse...
dunno what year you have, so I don't know if you'd suffer the same fate...

air horns. . . . . . have you tried following them home and threatening them with a firearm? That will give you a more memorable reaction.

But seriously, things like this no longer bother me. I know that there are idiots and jerks on the roads and I simply leave enough space for them to merge because they are going to take the space whether I give it to them or not.

As an alternative to the airhorn check out Griot's garage for the electric horns they have.....very loud and they are a plug-n-play install.

I used to work for the railroad, and a buddy of mine liberated a set of locomotive horns. He'd set those off behind some idiot, and it was like the hammer of Thor hitting them!

Go big or go home! Groits are ok, but of you want some attention, then get this...

http://www.hornblasters.com/

There's room behind the bumper for most of the smaller kit, then just find a place for the compressor. C'mon... how mad are you really... mad enough to make a difference? :)

I second that... but I do forget, sometimes. People around here, I swear! (yeah, it is LA, so we've got the "my car is nicer than yours and so I must be more important" crowd. But, we've also got the "I don't care about you or any one else for that matter" crowd. These are some mean streets, baby. Good thing my MINI makes me smile!

This + This

mooo Feb 26, 2008 09:51 PM

I hate people that do that.. I usually just speed up to get out of the way of anyone that looks like they want to pull something stupid.

yellowbritishrocket Feb 26, 2008 10:40 PM

thats the thing...i had someone in the other lane so i couldnt move over and he showed no signs of moving until i was almost down the hill and then he decided to bolt across

yellowbritishrocket Feb 27, 2008 09:54 PM

well it happened again....was going up the 805 N just past I-8 here in san diego and a lady in a suburban full of kids swerved into my lane...she was too busy on her cell phone and drinking coffee and just came right over....no one in front of her and i was in the middle lane....i had to stand on my brakes to avoid her and when i hit the horn?notta...bupkis she continued on like she didnt hear...if she didnt have kids in her car she would have gotten the one bird salute and a brake check...but anyways the dual air horns are on the way

EllaJeanLumpkins Feb 28, 2008 03:56 PM

I know it's irritating to be cut off like that but I couldn't help but laugh at the part where you mentioned that the person needed to wash the van.

Some Guy Feb 28, 2008 08:08 PM

Air horns are great. Mine isnt that much louder than the ones around hear but id sounds different enough to get peoples attention. (one of those griots horns).

ok i got the FIAMM horns from Mini Mania....but they come with no brackets?! any help here or somewhere that sells the same brackets that came with the old Moss kit?

RJKimbell Feb 28, 2008 08:27 PM

I had thought that the MINI Motoring Community was supposed to be a little less Postal!? Trust me...I understand exactly how you feel. In the PNW everyone drives like they are the only ones on the road. Women putting makeup on, talking on the cell phone, drinking coffee and driving with their Left Knee. :eek2: We (Husband & I) are able to carpool, hence the MINI and it's awesome gas mileage. Since I do the driving everyday both ways I've become alot less stressed about those kind of situations because I know once we get the MINI I will be more protective of MY Molly and that may mean giving someone else a little more room to be STUPID. I don't let him drive 'cause I'd be 'white knucled' the whole time. I drive a '01 Dodge Durango so I could make most cars on the road a Postage Stamp if I wanted.

yellowbritishrocket Feb 28, 2008 08:29 PM

oh im not postal...not as postal i could have been if he had actually hit my car....its one thing if its an accident but there is no excuse for blantant negligence...
