Some things I've learned after 2 days
Day 2, put on over 200 miles going nowhere in particular. - This car is almost as fun driving reasonably as it is obliterating the speed limit and taxing the laws of inertia (not that I've done any of that with only 200 miles on the odo...).
- All the 'quirky' controls that I've seen criticized in reviews become very intuitive after a very short time behind the wheel. Everything makes sense and seems very well thought out. It just plain works.
- The base stock sound system ain't no Blaupunkt, but it ain't the worst I've heard, either. It'll do for now.
On the other hand, I don't know if I will ever, ever figure out how, for a nose hair over $20K, BMW managed to create a car that absorbs the worst roads comfortably yet demands to be thrown into the tightest curves with reckless abandon, and with a bhp rating under 200 can slam you into your seat like a high-performance car costing many thousands more.
In just two days of owning a Mini I've rediscovered the joy of driving.
