What's wrong with those NON-MINI drivers?

They hate being passed by MINI. Has anybody experienced this? Majority of time, they always passed me. I am just driving and minding my own business. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM? SUVs and Semi-Trucks are worse.

buzzsaw Aug 20, 2007 06:08 PM

They breath through their mouth--that's what's wrong with them.

Crashton Aug 20, 2007 06:09 PM

Yep happens all the time. I let them by or maybe I'll downshift & spool the supercharger up a bit.

I say V-Dubs are the worst. If I pass them on the Interstate they instantly jump right on my bumper. I pull over and let them pass as I laugh. At 41, my testosterone levels aren't what they used to be.

minjae Aug 20, 2007 07:05 PM

i say..GO FASTER!! dont let them pass you.:lol:
kidding of course. but i think most people say "oooh look at that pretty mini" as we zoom past them :thumbsup:

valthun Aug 20, 2007 08:57 PM

yeah I had a new beetle turbo next to me the other day. i pull out at the light as normal, and I could hear the turbo spooling as he was trying to stay with me and pass. Keep in mind the speed limit is 50 on the road, and I normally quickly get up to speed. Of coarse I hit 50 and he kept going. Oh, and I am not driving an S.

I think this ad campaign should make its way stateside.

They think "bigger" is better...sometimes it is but not in this case..

Donna:cool:

I think that the answer to your question lies in the title of your post.

The obvious problem for these people is...

They're not driving a MINI!

Had this happen this morning, went around a slow moving Colorado pickup in heavy traffic and then he tried to glue himself to my bumper. Once we hit more open freeway I was able to slip between a few cars and put quite a bit of distance between us without really going much over the limit. Once the traffic thinned tho, here he came - roared by me well over 90 mph.............I just let him go, it's not worth it.

If it's me and our family in our monster Escalade, we're just trying to get a lookie at the MINI and admire it!

We run the spectrum here at our house...Escalade ESV, Dodge Cummin's 3/4 ton truck, a Benz, and a MINI that will be here in 2 months!

I had a seasoned citizen in a Cadillac sedan get pissed because I merged ahead of him after a traffic light. He stuck to my bumper with nobody in the left lane, I brake checked, he swerved around and almost clipped my front bumper. He must not have taken his meds.

I'm sure location has everything to do with it.

mdsbrain Aug 23, 2007 06:17 AM

They don't like to play follow the leader and think your hogging the left lane:lol:

I like that, seasoned citizen.

Maybe he skipped his meds, but I'm wondering if maybe you skipped yours.  He tail gates you so you brake check him?? What were you thinking?? You are lucky he didn't drive into your boot. Yep it would've been his fault, but you & I know who really would have been at fault. Them seasoned ones have slower reaction times. You took quite a chance there. Glad you escaped unscathed. My advice would be to drop down a gear & watch him get smaller in the rear view mirror.

Classic passive aggressive... but there's always the "gradually accelerate on a long uphill" technique, get 'em going really well, then signal, lane-change right, and let them fly by over the crest right into the arms of the waiting Trooper...

Seen it happen, but I'm with this:

At 41, my testosterone levels aren't what they used to be.

Loony2N Aug 23, 2007 09:22 AM

I love when I get some idiot at the light next to me, revving his popcorn-maker, looking back and forth between me and the light. I look and either smile or shake my head, depending on my mood. The light changes and they take off. I go just like I normally do. I hope they feel satisfied, and have a great time relaying the story to the cop down the road.

Here's the Youtube on that ad... a soon-to-be classic

We saw this exact behavior during our last road trip! People HATED being passed by a mini! It got funny after awhile, I would pass them and they would drive to catch up and pass me. Whatever, I've just got the cruise control on and enjoying my drive... leave me alone to my motoring.

NickS Aug 25, 2007 02:02 PM

the other day i was driving home, and these two kids in their civic was revvin at me and i could hear them downshift, i drove casually right by them like i wasnt paying any attention to them, and they showed me some VVTAAKKK, and i laughed

I'm 32 and just got an S. Now I feel like I'm back in high school again when the four-wheel-harley-davidsons in civic jackets rev it up next lane over for a challenge.

Here is an example of a very large dually pickup driver using my left turn lane as a merge lane. I know they think they're "safe" in their bigass truck.  I wasn't prepared and missed them just behind my neighbor who was waiting to turn left off Blood Alley.   I'm gonna get killed by some ____ without even moving (vs. speeding~~close second).

I think they are of the bigger is better crowd and really are showing they know nothing about cars (ie. what they're dealing with  )

I just drive around and away from them with a cheery catch me of if you can spirit. I know I'm bad but I enjoy serving humble pie.

clarkdr81 Aug 27, 2007 10:09 AM

I think in my case they are just trying to catch up so they can get a good look at perfection (either the car or me...haven't exactly figured out which yet).
