Has anyone else seen this video Mini v's Porsche?

Sorry if this has been posted before... But this is one fast Mini! Not to mention one heck of a driver!

Don't forget to look in the rearview mirror... :)

Cool video, I can't say that I like the exhaust note. A bit too high pitched and raspy for me.

madmike007 Jun 29, 2006 11:01 PM

I'm curious to know what kind of mods/tuning was done to that car?

blockh102 - Looks like you're pushing decent #'s as well. Nice! :)

ashboomstick Jun 30, 2006 02:35 AM

Wow, that guy's got some sack to be taking those corners that aggressively!! However, I can't help but think that the Porsche could've taken him at his leisure.

ScottinBend Jun 30, 2006 07:46 AM

If I remember correctly (ya, I know hard to do at my age.......lol) this is the MINI-Madness car.

onasled Jun 30, 2006 07:52 AM

Yes, that is from Steve Diniz's Mini, though I don't know if that's him at the wheel or his even faster co-driver. I gather his main sponsor is in fact Madness. Steve is a good driver.
Don't be surprised that a Mini S with some mods can eat up a P-car on some tracks.

I have seen Tony Nuzzo race & the Porsche's can't seem to take him at their leisure  The Porsches rule the straights & the Mini catches em on the turns  There was another great video somewhere on NAM showing it but I dunno where it is now.

Go take a look at the Ring times for ANY porsche and then MINI. Its laughable. They are minutes behind on a single lap. Now I am SURE Onasled has much experience in this and can provide the final word on a small course like LRP. I defer to his greater knowledge. But I would bet the Boxsters and Caymans are much quicker around the corners than 996s and I know the Cayman is quicker than the base 997.

With 'real' race divers the Mini just wont stand a chance against a late model Porsche. It's just in the armature racing a HPDEs that you will see Minis give them a challenge.
As some of you know I have a video of me passing P-car after P-car. It's a fun video to watch, but the reality is that it's only a HPDE advanced drivers group.
At tracks like LRP and NHIS I feel confident that I can give the p-cars a good run, but put us at Watkins Glen and they would just say by-by, ... as long as the driver was of equal talents.

I dunno much about all the technical stuff. I think I found the video link finally but unfortunately it is about a year old & dead (maybe the video I saw was your ono I can't remember). When we watched the Grand Am races at Barber Motorsports last year the Mini was beating most of the other cars (Porsches included) in the corners. It was pretty amazing to see for me.

onasled Jun 30, 2006 10:17 AM

Being that Minis and Porsches don't race in the same class in Grand AM, I'm wondering if there was a problem with the ones that the Mini was passing as they are in the faster class of cars.
Anyway, this was my LRP video.
This is the cobra video ..

I remember at the Barber Race there were not many cars in the Mini's class almost all were in the faster class. The Mini started midpack & finished midpack. Either way I don't follow the races much & was on the fence about attending but seeing the video (& I think it was yours last year but I just enjoyed watching it again thanks  ) made me want to go to the race & I am glad I did because I had a blast.

That's a really cool video onasled! Nice driving!

Thanks Onasled:thumbsup: ... that is why I deferred to your greater knowledge in this area.

You should get some Porsche stickers and use them as kill markings on your Mini!

Spitfire Jul 13, 2006 07:46 PM

All depends on the track (and driver). A high speed track like the Nurburgring is going to be great for a Porsche. A short track like Waterford Hills will be good for a Mini. I have been within less than 1 second of a modded Vette's track record with my Triumph Spitfire (in 1147cc trim).

Gromit801 Jul 13, 2006 07:51 PM

But which Nurburgring? The current circut of the Nordschliffe? I think the Mini would rule on the Nordschliffe.

Spitfire Jul 13, 2006 07:59 PM

Whichever one that has 8 minutes as a really fast target. In order to go 8 minutes or less, you better be capable of 160+ on the straights....

Nice Job - Woo Hoo !

The Cobra certainly had the Speed on the Strait - but what was he doing in the corners ??

ICEMAN Jul 15, 2006 10:23 PM

I took my nearly stock(camber plates) JCW MCS on a road course last weekend for hot laps and caught up to a Ferrari F355 owned and driven by Formula V driver-he couldn't shake me and I would have passed him but the rules were "no passing except on the main straight". It felt good being quicker than a Ferrari and a Ford GT but I know that if it had been me driving either of those cars, I would have left my beloved MINI in the dust. I'll post the video as soon as I get it digitized.
