I have the H-sport rear bar in the middle position, h-sport springs at all four corners. I am installing the koni's this weekend and am looking for a good setup for the rear shocks. I really don't wanna have to keep dropping them to adjust them. I auto-x and do track days. Any suggestions?

Wow!! I guess you hit the jack pot on replies......well, never mind....I have the same equipment and the same proble, I am planning on doing the middle setting on all four corners for my first Auto X and see what happens and I will go full hard for the race track.......let me know what you find out, I'll let you know what I find out.....

Great, we have our own private little post. lol.
I am at 3/4 of full firm on the rear, and 1/2 turn off of full firm on the front. It is rough. For Auto-x it will be awesome, for the street it is too rough. Interesting note: at 3/4 firm on the rear and 1/2 firm on the front, the car understeers! Did an impromptu wet skid pad test and was competely surprised. As for my new suspension, h-sport springs, rear sway bar on middle setting, and konis; the grip is unreal. I am doing the h-sport rear camber link to take out the negative camber the springs put in. Fixing the camber on the rears is also supposed to help the ride. I am trying to find a way to access the rear koni from the top through the interior with a pilot hole. Figure I can modify the adjuster knob with an extension and get to the top of the shock from the interior. Now to find out what is on top of the shock. Uber |
My AutoX got postponed till next week (It is bloody snowing here in the land of Cleves). I will try your set up, without the rear link. don't have them......DO let me know how you get on with the "adjusting the rear shocks" project"......I don't have the ability or the b...s to take on something like that. Also, I don't have adjustable s-bars so I will keep the stock jobs for now. I think I found a way to make the stock jobs adjustable but it involves two sets of links. The stock ones for soft and links with heim joints and nifte clamps for the bar for medium and harder......have got to get a guy @ work to do a government job on the clamps......

Now to find out what is on top of the shock. >> I looked at this.....seems like a boxed frame rail sits right on top of the rear shock, or rather the rear shock sits right under a boxed frame member. I am thinking it might be more profitable to remove the inner plastic liner and go in through the side of the boxed frame. You would have to dismount the tires to adjust but I think it is better than to mess with the interior......I don't want to do that now....or possibly ever. |
So now I've done two events and this last Sunday I adjusted the shocks.
I now have them on full hard in the rear and a full turn towards soft from the mid point on the fronts. Even though I drove like a dog or a stone....(stoned dog maybe) I did manage to improve every time and the car felt better as well. I met my goal (below 40 seconds on that course) which put me with the "fast guys" but not the great awesome guys....... i figure softer yet in the front........4 psi higher in the back than in the front BTW...... |
very interesting.
I just raced this sunday, 1/4 firm on the rear and full firm on the front. 40 psi all around, but it went to 45 front 42 rears after I put some heat in the tires. It was 70-80 degrees F, so I had plenty of tire grip. I had the best time for STX and was decent in SM. The car handles great and I want to add some more to the rear, but with warm tires, I still get a push. Cold tires is massive oversteer. I would guess our tire pressure differences make a big difference. I want to go to 1/2 firm in the rears and see what a difference that makes to daily driving. The more I ride with the koni's the more I adjust myself to their setting. Ubercooper ps I wish I could just subscribe to this post so I would know when it was updated. |
I am in the middle of my road racing schedule so I won't go autocrossing until later in May. Very interesting indeed.......word of advice.......full hard front will promote push......these cars like to push anyways......I say grippy front and loose rear so it will tend to oversteer, that means harder settings in back and higher pressures in back. Keep looking in....I will certainly do as well
