How to race prep a car?
How to race prep a car?
Hi all,
I am not prepping my R56 as a deticated track car but a Proton Satria GTi.
It's quite popular here in Malaysia.
I am new to this so any advice is appreciated.
These are the things that i am already planning to do:
1) Strip the car of all interior carpet, moulding and sound deathening material
2) Remove the air-con
3) semi or slick tires
4) braided hoses
5) hotter rated brake pads
Anything else just to get started?
Coils will probably go in before the August 12hr Endurance Race at the Sepang Track in Kuala Lumpur.

Things that I do:
Change brake fluid to higher boiling temperature fluid- do this about once a year or more often if you track your car each month.
Change engine oil using full synthetic every 3000 miles or before the track session
Clean and/or replace the air filter
Use higher octane fuel or get some ready, usually 100 octane
Remove heavy stereo upgrades like amp or subwoofer if easy
Install a lighter weight battery and holder, Braille battery is very light
Remove the back seat if you can
Install racing harnesses like schroth quick fit four point harness
Ferodo DS2500 brake pads are OK (not for R56)
Make sure all fluids are at correct levels
Use light rims and track tires or street tires that can take track duty- Extreme performance (Bridgestone RE-01R) or Max Performance summer tires from Falken or Hankook.
