WRX / MCS / VIPER BANDIMERE 1/4 MILE TIMES
As of Wed June 24 I have hard data for both my MCS and my WRX on the track the same day. The Viper was thrown in for fun (cause I OWNED him....in the REX)
Bandimere Speedway 5800ft ASL (that means it is slow up here especially if your car is naturally aspirated) I posted this in another forum, however I think this needs its own topic. The times noted were the fastest for each car (4 runs each) The mini varied the most (up to .9 sec) where as the WRX ran within .15 every run. I don't have any other slips for the Viper, however I saw him run as poorly as a 14.5 and as fast as a 13.80.
2003 WRX- mods
18" Forged Rims Falken Azenis Rubber
Catless vishnu uppipe
Catless 3" divorced bosal Downpipe
Catless 3" Mid pipe
Greedy 3.2" "cat" back
MBC set to 18psi
EXEDY Clutch
Cooper S
Magnaflow
Madness intake
Alta Pulley
Stock rims and run flats
WRX - 3370lbs with driver)
60' - 1.87
1/8 MI - 8.89
1/8 MPH - 79.1
1/4 - 13.89
1/4 MPH - 99.80
MCS - 2780lbs with dirver)
60'-2.49
1/8-mi - 10.71
1/8-mph - 69.8
1/4 - 15.78
1/4 - 94.1
For comparison 2000 Dodge Viper (ran next to me in the WRX)
60-ft 2.01
1/8 mi 9.241
1/8 mph 76.37
1/4 13.98
1/4 mph 102.5
The WRX obviously slaughtered the MINI. However if you take a look at the numbers the story is quite interresting. Notice the last 1/8 mile the wrx only picked up 20 mph and covered the last 1/8 in 5 sec flat. Where as the MCS picked up over 24 mph and covered the last 1/8 in just over 5 sec. This shows that the WRX is really slowing down (comparitively) after 70ish MPH, where as the MINI is just getting rolling. Similar 1/8 - 1/4 MPH pick up to the Viper which was running me down pretty hard by the end of the 1/4. The main reason I included the Viper is to show just how much altitude can hurt performance. The fastest stock Z06 Vette I have seen run is 13.7. Sorry about the long post, Just thought you folks might want to know.

Tim,
Hey, it's good to see you on MCO! I think the last time I saw you was when you met up with us in Evergreen.
BTW, We have a drive Saturday and BMWCCA autocross on Sunday (if you want to come out and race in something other than a straight line).
Anyhow, nice work out at Bandimere. I see they are getting ready for a big weekend.

Straight line is really getting pretty boring, I am really interested in doing some Auto-X or Road racing. I would love to come, This weekend is really a rough one I have a wedding reception friday at the Lake house. Then the bicycle tour of Colorado pulls into Evergreen on Sunday. Ahhhh the joys of retail...
Mile high nationals are this weekend.(in big booming voice) SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY, BE THERE, BE THERE, BE THERE , WE'LL SELL YOU THE WHOLE SEAT BUT YOU WILL ONLY NEED THE EDGE....
Any how thanks for the invite,
Since you were racing both the WRX and the Cooper S at Bandimere, I assume you might have a similar interest in racing both in Autocross. BMWCCA would have classes for both. The WRX would be in "non BMW" and would get a PAX time, but your MINI would be in BS class (it's a BMWCCA class, not an SCCA class). The pulley is what kicks you out of the stock class (CS) into BS.
To find out more about how to register for BMWCCA autocross and how the classing is handled check here

ps - I'll move this thread over to the MCO Racing and Competition forum shortly.
