Brake pedal click/clack when in Park

New problem (they keep piling up). When in Park, depressing the brake makes an audible click like a marble or ball dropping which you feel in the shifter. This started today.

That would be the release allowing you to shift out of Park. Most automatics have this sensation...the lock makes it so you have the brake depressed when shifting, since shifting out of Park without the brake on is kinda...dangerous.

Let me be clearer. This is something that hasn't happened until today. It's not the "ping" you get when you actually shift. It's literally when I am in park, if I depress the brake and then let up the brake, I get the clack which I feel in the shifter. I've had the car for almost 10K miles and this just started today. Does anyone else have that sensation? Again, started today, and when I had the service loaner, it wasn't there, either.

Call the dealer and ask, but I can tell you this, I have felt and heard that in EVERY automatic I've ever owned/driven. If it just started after 10k miles, then something likely got broken in.
Perhaps my explanation wasn't enough. There is a lock of some sort (usually a gate) that locks the shifter in place when it's in Park. This lock doesn't release until you hit the brake, and when you let off the brake the lock goes back in place. In most automatics this produces an audible click and a vibration that is felt in the shifter.

Correct.

Shift lock solenoid. That is the thing that keeps it from shifting out of park until you depress the brake pedal. It may just be louder for some reason or you just never noticed. The adjustment could have moved a bit to change the noise...but it isn't major that is for certain. Often there is an override where you can stick a key in incase it goes bad on the road. Probably in the manual, but I have a stick stick so I don't even know what the console looks like.

thanks

I have the same problem with my R60 ALL4 2013. Took it to the dealer and they told me its a "normal" noise. That it will not damage anything, and it had to do with the parking mechanism... I really didn't understand everything.

But they told me it will not affect anything.

Calling BS on the click

Had my brakes serviced today, and out of nowhere I'm getting this loud clicking that is so loud it vibrates through the auto gear shifter and emergency brake from the brake. The dealer says, "every car does this"...I have been driving for 28 years and never experienced this. Sounds like a joint popping and out of socket. This is NOT normal.

My 2015 CM S does this. 556 miles on it. ChefTyler nailed this right away. Normal. If anyone doubts it, hop in another Mini. Guaranteed it will do the same thing. The noise may be more noticeable on some cars than others. Naturally, people tend to notice things about their car when they leave a shop.

Not to belabor the point, but my clicking sound and the noise disappeared once I put on all new rotors. Just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Same on my F56 (42k miles), I just noticed it today. Exactly as you described. Engine running and in Park or N. No sound Engine off. Also clicks at very low speeds 1-5mph coasting in Neutral (but not in Drive). Perhaps the sound was always there but I never noticed, or perhaps coincidentally, I starting to notice it having just flushed my brake fluids and more keen on sounds and noises, to confirm whether or not I did something wrong.

Look at the date on those prior posts....

@Cosmic Blue Conspiracy I know this thread is 10 years old hahaha, but, I have this newly developed sound too (yes I was in the shifter/idrive compartment installing some wires) but I never noticed it before and I certainly altered something-super annoying-anyone ever find a solution?
