I may be picking up a used jcw clubman this weekend, and was just wondering if they suffer from the same stock issues as the S models? It has the extended factory warranty, so I'm not overly concerned, but I just wanted to check so I can keep an ear out for anything that might come up.

Well, I've read that the S has issues with the HPFP and timing chains due to low oil levels and the hydraulic chain tensioner.
The JCW has 39,400 miles

Yep, same stuff.

Kicker is the low oil level and long frequency between oil changes.
That causes oil sludging and therefore can have damaging affects on:
* vacuum pump - bearings are scored and the pump seizes causing the camshaft to lock-up and granading the cylinder head valvetrain
* timing chain tensioner (cold-start rattle) - low oil will reduce tension on the chain, allowing the chain to skip teeth on camshaft sprockets, granading cylinder head
* turbocharger oil feed lines - low oil, and infrequent oil changes will produce engine oil sludging which causes turbo bearings to fail

bummer. But, it's at least what I was expecting. So the main thing to do is check oil levels often and do more frequent oil changes. I can live with that. I'll have to do more research on the HPFP though. I just know it's an issue, and don't know what the early warning signs are.
I've had a chance to briefly look over the service record of the car, and there has been no mention of changing of the HPFP or any low oil issues. Is the dealership allowed to disclose the full service record of the car, if it's available? There was one mention of a "noisy flywheel" that was on the service record they let me see. Other than that it showed normal interval oil changes.

 

Sure, grab the VIN and run the dealer records.

What year JCW? There was a manufacturing defect with some of clutch assemblies that were installed by the supplying manufacturer.

I have a 2009 JCW Clubman also with 33k miles. The only issue I have is the bonnet scoop is warped due to turbo heat. Dealer is replacing under warranty and adding a metal heat shield (service bulletin). JCWs eat tires, even when driven easy like mine, so I am on my second set.

Well I picked up my jcw clubman! Oh man what a sweet ride. I can't stop driving it. I find excuses just to get out and drive it.

It shouldn't. The alignment specs are exactly the same as the S.
