No problem, glad I could help. You'll love your new JCW. The MINI is a great car!

FWIW, don't let the dealer tell you that is normal. It doesn't rattle or make any other noise on my '09 JCW.

Mine neither.

My spin:
I had a sunroof 2 cars before the MINI. It was my first and I really enjoyed it. My truck in between that car and the MINI did not have one and I missed it. I bought my MINI off the lot. If it had not had the sunroof, it would not have been a deal-breaker, but would have preferred having one. As for weight savings and the potential effect on handling, remember that the car will be on the street nearly all of the time. Unless you track every day, it will only be a tiny fraction of your time with the car.

Out of curiosity, I haven't heard of the sunroof rattling. There have been posts here about wind noise, but it wouldn't be peculiar to JCWs unless it has some relationship with the spoilers and the air flow. Otherwise the roofs would be the same.

To clarify, I don't think it's actually the sunroof itself but rather on the inside area of the car that frames the sunroof that contains the sun screens that has been identified as the source of the noise. I'm one of the unlucky ones that does have that problem. Some have gone so far as to completely remove the sun screens and all related parts to eliminate the noise.

I do plan to take it to the dealer while it's still under warranty for the next few months to see if they can fix it. Based on posts I've read it's hit-or-miss depending on the dealer I suppose and how experienced the techs there are, or whether or not the deem it an actual "problem".

Hopefully they'll be able to find the source of the noise and eliminate the cause.

Aside from the incessant rattle I do enjoy the sunroof, but not more than I despise the noise.

I just got a justa loaner with a moonroof pair - no rattles at all. You want rattles? Grab an R57 and go through Chicago after winter!
