rattles on on a 30,000+ dollar car?
Well we all know that half of the car is made from plastic. I am amazed they can fit it together so nicely. I figure it is bound to have some rattles... just by the way it is made. Most of the fasteners are made form plastic as well. But... you also get a very lightweight car. I can live with a little buzzing here and there. It's a Mini and it has its quirks... but it is kick-*** fund to drive.

Don't forget the suspension is also taught, even the base suspension. The thing will rattle itself to death if you frequent bad roads.

Its funny how when I go from the MINI to my Jeep Grand Cherokee, bumps that would make the MINI shudder is like running over butter in the Jeep.

Conversely, taking a corner in the Jeep is like driving in your fluffy living room couch that has marshmallow tires.

Mako/Msport any luck with your problem. I am going thru the same thing. I have about 600 miles on it when it started. Sounds just as you describe either metal or glass rattle. I notice it mainly when going 30mph or slower and when i hit any sort of bump and slow/mid speed. I thought I found the issue when i took my boot apart and found a loose bolt sitting under the tool kit. Unfortunatly that wasnt it.

Tonight I had my wife drive me around while i was in the trunk. I took everything out and put the seats down. I def think the noise is isolated to the locking mechanism on the boot door but its kind of hard to place. If I put my finger on the metal bar of the boot lock it seems to vibrate that lines up with the noise. So i think you may be right mako. Did either of you guys find a fix or have this into the dealer yet?

Squeaky passenger door for me. Usually the music is too loud to hear it, but annoying when I listen to news on AM radio. Haven't figured out what in the interior panels or other is behind it.

From reading through this post it seems the sunroof is the cause of many of these rattles. With those complaining about rattles in the dash/doors let us know if you also have a sunroof. I wonder if its the extra body flex that comes with the sunroof that could be causing those too.

I had my trunk rattle fixed today. It was the latch on the boot door. I took it in to the dealer and they adjusted the latch and the rattle is gone.

Exact same problem for me. They fixed a mis-aligned lock mechanism and the rattle seems to have gone..touch wood!

Most of my rattles fixed

Mine were mostly fixed. Mainly the trunk latch and something loose in the
driver's door lock. The trunk noise may be restarting...
The only one not found is the noise from where the plastic of the glove box
meets the passenger door.
Has anyone noticed rattles improving once change tires to non run flats?

Anyone know exactly what was adjusted? I don't feel like spending 4-5 round trip to fix a rattle.

I give up. I've been in the bodyshop business for 26 years and I am unable to find the rattle/pop in the hatch.

The rattle is more of a metal pop/creak when I drive over a driveway and the car twists.

It's two separate pops once right after another. I've adjusted the latch, the rubber bushings, etc, etc...

It sounds like it's coming from the roof/spoiler area but I'm sure the sound is transferring from the latch.

Adjusting the latch can make the noise better or worse so I think it's pretty safe to say the latch is out of adjustment.

I even drove around with the hatch open with my head hanging out on top of the rear bumper.

You'd think being in the bodyshop business, I'd be able to track this down... can't believe I'm having such a hard time.

when my boot latch was rattling bad i had my wife ride me around while i sat in the back. If I put my hand on the bar from the hatch door where it goes into the lock you could feel it vibrate every time i could hear the noise.

The main thing I really noticed after the adjustment was just how lubed the lock was. I mean it was practically dripping. I have a feeling I will be taking it in a second time real soon though.

Thanks bud,

I did the same thing. I had my wife drive around and I hung out the back. However, mine really only makes noise when I pull into a driveway.

So, here we are driving in and backing out of the driveway. We must have looked like a Benny Hill show.

It's funny you mentioned the lube. I've found that every time I take my car in for service and they have to fix something, LOTS OF LUBE is part of the fix.

Its gotta be coming from below.Check your bumper cover give it a jiggle at the bottom where mud flaps will go if you were to put some on. Mine seem loose but I have all the plastic rivets in place.

Not sure if this is helpful or on topic....

I have TONS of rattle if I have either rear seat folded down. It almost always goes away when the seats are properly put back up. Maybe check the seats to see if everything is correctly connecting?

You guys are going to laugh....

It's funny you mentioned the lube. I've found that every time I take my car in for service and they have to fix something, LOTS OF LUBE is part of the fix.

I came into work today determined more than ever to fix my elusive squeek/rattle/pop/grind/whatever you want to call it.

I took all the plastic out of the back of the mini, made my adjustments and put one of my employees in the hatch. (he wasn't very appreciative of it... he's over 6'1"...lol)

I got it adjusted to where it's made the least amount of noise it's ever made. I decided to try some lube and guess what... the rest of the noise is GONE.

Figures, I make a comment about the dealer lubing everything and that's what does the final fix.

good luck orange. Mine was quiet for about 2 weeks when the dealer adjusted my lock and lubed the hell out of it. About 2 weeks of Boot use later and its coming back. I throw my work bag in the trunk every day for work so that boot opens and closes pretty frequently... I just dont get it.

I feel compelled to say, I think I figured out what I was hearing, and I'm embarrassed it took me so long ... and that I came here saying I thought I had a rattle. What I was hearing was when noone was in the passenger side, the passenger seat's seat belt clip hitting the pillar.

I am at the 13.5K mark on my 08 R52 Cabrio and now the squeaks and rattles can be heard when the radio is blasting. Is there a list of common rattles the dealers "know about" that could be shared with us. Mine predominately comes from the rear windows even with the slightest bump.
I mentioned this to my SA when the first scheduled service was performed and nothing really changed.

You guys are too picky...I owned a brand new 1986 Corvette and got concerned when a particular rattle DISAPPEARED. I figured that the part that was rattling had just fallen off, and then got concerned that I might actually NEED that part
