Dyno Results 09 JCW

Thinking about getting my car dyno'd by Mach V to see if the rumors are true and also to determine if MINI has under-reported the actual horsepower - reports are saying that our car puts out closer to 200 hp at the wheel.

Stay tuned - and if anyone has a stock dyno result, please post it here.

PGT 08-22-2008 05:08 AM

just let me drive it Sunday and my finely calibrated butt dyno will rate it against my car

Hellion 08-22-2008 03:13 PM

those with Iphone can get Dynolicious to utilize the accelerometer in the phone. Its also only $13 and more accurate then a G-tech

Dyno'ed a 2009 JCW

I'll let the numbers speak for themselves. Numbers are at the wheels.

Those are some pretty strong numbers. Over 200 ft. lbs avail from 3k-5k. Nice. So factoring driveline loss, etc, about 230 hp and about as much torque?

Ryephile 08-23-2008 05:18 PM

Well it does have markedly more power up top [about 27wHP], but to be honest I'm disappointed in how little torque it has over a stock Cooper S. For comparison, on a Dynojet most MCS's are seeing 170wHP/200wLbFt, with the same sort of torque dip around 3000-3500 RPM. $7k for 10wLbFt would burn my toast fiercely. You can also clearly see the JCW's higher boost threshold [the RPM the boost kicks in]

Here is my '07 MCS, bone stock:

edit: I just changed my post. Actually, I see this graph is quite similar to Alta's where before I had thought the peaks were @ different RPMs. That's a good thing.

Yeah, well......but c'mon, they do look really nice.

minim8o 08-23-2008 05:42 PM

btw, MotorMouth, thanx for not having the graph over smoothened.

I thought 1st mod was going to be strut tower braces... I think now it should be fighting his asthma on deep breaths. I want to break mine in before I get him Dynoed... but also, I only have Mustang dynos around me.

There is some value in the factory "prep work" [i.e. pistons, higher flow turbo, stronger cylinder head casting] along with the awesome looking Brembo brakes, eLSD, and nice looking stock wheels. If I was looking to build up an R56 for track work, the JCW would probably be my starting platform.

no, 12% losses is the usual correction factor. so, about 220hp/235tq at the crank. nice numbers for a 1.6L to be sure, but some had hoped for a bit more. We'll see...I get to give one a spin in the morning.

JCW4me 08-24-2008 11:52 AM

PGT - just checked out your ride on m/u. That is one sweet ride you have. Nicely done.

Isn't that a bit ridiculous or greedy? The JCW delivers more than promised yet some are disappointed with the numbers?

If I buy a 10lb sack of potatoes and I get home and weigh them at 11 lbs I don't say "gee.. I wish it had been 12 lbs.." I'm happy I got more than I paid for.

On another note - did you get to drive one today? I don't expect it to be anywhere near as fast as your current ride but what did you think for a bone stock car?

PGT 08-24-2008 02:08 PM

its not that I'm greedy as much as comparing what the cost gets you if choosing another marque, that's all.

Krut and swapped cars today...I'll let him comment on his drivng impressions of mine (besides being way too loud). The main diff is power deilvery...mine is linear whereas the JCW has a fat low end. The power is impressive but more like a VW than my car. Not bad or good just different. Overall I liked it

NZ_M3 08-24-2008 08:14 PM

Be interesting to see how this compares to the stage 1 JCW dealer fit kit?? I thought the stage 1 made 204hp at the wheels (from a quick search on the forums).

Anyone with a stage 1 dyno graph?

I would love to see that as well !!!

Ryephile 08-25-2008 02:06 PM

^^^Me too! I might just have to make an appointment to dyno my Stage 1 '08 MCS. I hadn't planned on it 'cuz it's just my daily driver, but I'm kinda curious now. The only dyno I've seen to date put down something like 185wHP & 212wLbFt.

Krut 08-25-2008 02:10 PM

Jeez is PGT's car loud! My ears are still ringing from yesterday's windows down drive!

PGT 08-25-2008 02:40 PM

hey now...we're sorting that out. we know it's loud, how does it compare?

Krut 09-08-2008 11:36 AM

Your power delivery is smoother - mine is more low-end grunt. Definitely would smoke you to about 50 (maybe even 60) and then you'd slowly creep by. :-)

PGT 09-08-2008 11:40 AM

but you have runflats on and I have rcomps  try putting the power down on a hard launch :P

seriously though....very different animals with respect to the power curves, but equally entertaining

littlehandegan 09-15-2008 08:14 AM

I think you guys need to race, from a dig and roll and have videos? Deal? ok go!

Mach V Dan 09-18-2008 12:03 PM

Here's today's results from Krut's car. For comparison, I've plotted my '07 MCS in stock form. Looks like I got on the throttle a little earlier on the run with my car; I'd ignore the difference below 2200 rpm.

22hp and 10tq peak delta? And yours is not a Stg I even. Wow.

Heck....should bring mine by to run and compare today.
