Good to know. I just don't want it unable to connect when the flap is open.

Since the default state of the flap is closed, it will never really be stuck open. You just need to turn the car off to reset the flap state.

So far (knock on wood) I have had no issues with the BT fob and the flap. It just works.

Okay, so I picked the car up, but the weather is about to get nasty in Austin, I went straight home. Sport has a nice and deep tone. With the flap open, it just becomes hilariously fun.

on a separate note, it says not to use track on the road or the car will be invalidated. Do they have any way of tracking this?

Yeah it's nothing that will keep the flaps open. You just have to shut the car off. It's mostly like the reciever goes into a standby mode, have to wait a minute and try the remote again and it usually connects again. I was wondering about trying to hardwire them to a switch in the center console at some point. For now I just need to get a high flow downpipe and cat to finish off the system.

No way of tracking it. Other than pulling you over for being too loud. At which point you just close the valve. And hide the fob, and plead ignorance.

I will keep in closed for sure in my neighborhood as I live next to and I am not kidding, a police officer on one side and a sheriffs deputy across the street with another 4 officers near by.

So I have a question, why would someone spend 2K + for a very mild engine tune (15hp) and an exhaust when you can go to Dinan and for $899 get 50+ hp increases (full warranty) and add an aftermarket exhaust for 750-1200 and gain 35+ more hp going the second option?? I had the JCW tune w/exhaust installed on my 2007 S and it was so NOT worth the 2K install......never would I have chose that option again.

Some of us older, paycheck to paycheck will pay extra to keep the factory warranty. Let's face it, you're right.

I don't think he's judging, a little misplaced frustration.... Maybe. He did ask for an explanation which I hope I was able to answer

I will give an explanation, but asking why someone would do x when they could have done y is basically calling me an idiot. I thought I had left VW Vortex behind.

I have been modifying and building VWs since I started driving 17 years ago. I have done big turbos and I have done tunes. I am tired of huge repair bills when my warranty isn't honored after I have done something to void it, turbos are expensive. For once, I want my factory warranty intact and I am very pleased with the results. Yes the Dinan tune would have yielded more power, but the headaches that can result from something going wrong and having to deal with the tuner for a repair just isn't worth my time.

I plan on keeping this car for awhile since I am starting an E30 project in the next year, so reliability is key.

I have done the same with Land Rovers for 12 years. Talk about reliability issues! They were fun though.

I'm on the same warranty train. I want more reliability and some peace of mind that if something breaks in a period of time, it is covered. I really want to pull the Dinan Elite trigger, but it has not been without issues from some people. I daily drive my MINI, so I can't afford downtime and bringing it in for 'diagnoses.' As for the exhaust. I prefer the JCW Exhaust over the Remus, etc. I just like it more. As for the tune, I bought a factory JCW so the tune was already there, and is again under warranty.

If you live out in long island, and can drive a stick, you can drive mine and test out the dinan elite. I had an issue, but they sent me a new one with few questions asked

So after 6 days of the JCW kit, I got hit by another driver in downtown Austin. There is frame damage and suspension damage and the bumper, sensors, hood, and headlight are all pretty torn up. I am not sure that the car can be fixed.
Hard to see from the picture, but the frame is punched in and the hood literally shredded. The car does not drive straight and there is a significant axle hop.

At this point, I would guess at least $10k in damage if the frame can be repaired.

It must be something with the JCW kit, had mine installed before I took delivery and about 200 miles later someone didn't set their parking brake correctly and their car rolled down the hill into the Mini. 9k worth of damage, no frame, just the external sheet metal, tail light and bumper cover. Luckily it didn't hit the exhaust.

That is precisely what I thought. I grabbed the exhaust controller out of the car before I left the body shop as a good luck charm. It looks like I will get the car back since there is no unibody damage.

I love the color of your car and the CF tips look awesome. Here is mine before my month got ruined, I wish I had gotten a shot of the exhaust, I got the SS tips.

Go Sharks, sorry if you are an Avs fan.

Yeah, I had just had mine about a month when it happened, wasn't driving it much since it has the oem summer tires and it has been cold out. I just got it back from the dealer yesterday, no way to tell that it was repaired unless you look at the seam instead the trunk, it's a little bit different then the one on the other side. With your repair and no frame pulling, they'll just be able to replace the hood, fenders and bumper cover hopefully and you should be good.

It was a good series at least even if the Avs came up short. I always root for the team that knocks mine out, so hopefully the Sharks can take the cup.

You will get to enjoy the Avs for the next billion years, they are the next dynasty. Honestly, the Avs are such a classy franchise that I have always like them.

Guess I need to hear a sound clip. We own a factory JCW CM and the sport exhaust is louder but certainly not something the neighbors would notice. Are the factory and add-on systems different? BTW I permanently disabled the exhaust flap in open mode by disconnecting its servomotor wire connector; super easy mod.
