Question Wife's nitpicks - any solutions?

I love our new Countryman hybrid, but my wife isn't quite there yet. She has a small list of gripes that I said I'd try to help resolve. Any help with the following would be greatly appreciated!
  • The sunroof shade isn't dark enough for her. She's sensitive to light, and finds it annoying on a sunny days, which we have a lot of in Colorado. Any way to replace the standard shade with one that's completely opaque?
  • Any way to turn off the driver's seat belt warning chime, or at least delay it 5-10 seconds so that it doesn't immediately bark at you the instant you turn on the ignition? (I have to admit, I find this annoying too.)
  • Any way to remove the rear headrests (at least the center one)? I tried pulling up with the button pressed, but they didn't seem to want to come out. I know they fold down, but it still blocks a lot of her view.
  • Any way to make the mirrors fold in automatically every time it's locked? I know you can press and hold the keyless entry lock button to trigger it, but again, it's a minor hassle to have to remember and wait for it.
I think that's it. The sunshade thing is probably the real priority of the bunch.

Thanks,
Sean

1. Get Zippeeshades for the sunroofs: http://zippeeshade.com/buy-here/
2. I think you can completely turn it off through coding - look up Bimmercode app and the OBDII adapter (
Amazon Amazon
).
3. Not sure about this one.
4. This can be coded too with Bimmercode.

#3 - I have an R60 and not an F60, but on my rear headrests, there's a smaller second button that you have to use a screwdriver to press in (actually I use the tip of my ignition key). It may be the same in the F60, so look for a small square button that sits flush. It's easy to miss.

Perforated vinyl on the sunroof glass. You can buy printed versions or just have plain material colored to your liking at a vinyl shop. With the sunshade open you get less light and with the shade closed it becomes a lot darker.

Bimmercode as mentioned above will let you do what you want in addition to things you didn't know you wanted.

You can have a tint shop tint the sunroof class with 5% tint. I have had mine done for 12 years without any issues.

Great, thanks, good tips. So re: the Bimmercode app - their website says that for iOS, they recommend the Veepeak OBDCheck Bluetooth 4.0 - any experience with that one?

Thanks,
Sean

Bimmercode is available for android on google play. I've only used the one I linked to. If they are recommending another one, I'd try that one out.

I must be the luckiest man alive. My wife doesn't complain about anything. I can buy anything I want and she doesn't even question it. I just placed a build on a 2019 JCW loaded and had to add one last thing that cost about $1,800 and no biggie to her. Thank God for my wife, she is the most amazing women that I have ever known. She had a single sister but she just got married.

Got Bimmercode up and running tonight, and successfully solved my #2 and #4 about (as well as a few other annoyances of my own, like the turning off the legal disclaimers and not having the AC go on when you hit the Auto button). Nice app, thanks for the tip!

Just got my 2019 MCS back in July...didn’t realize bimmercode was so easy to use. I just need the app and an ODBII adapter?

Does using bimmercode void any warranties? Will the dealer service department give me grief if they see coding has been done?

Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, its that easy. The app is not free if you want to code. It is free for read only mode.

The dealers in general don't seem to know what coding is, nor how to recognize if it has been done. They commonly write over any coding you do when they flash the ECUs with updates. You will have to re-code your changes in again. I don't believe it voids any warranty.

Can you use this to change the brake lights on an F54? Make the barn doors become brake lights?

Coding part

I'm trying to buy the coding part to work with Bimmer Code, they recommend this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073XKQQQW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073XKQQQW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Buy you guys recommend this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJJGSGT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3F2UU8IZ3AFBC&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJJGSGT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3F2UU8IZ3AFBC&psc=1

Which one is better? They say bluetooth is better then wifi, but some reviews on the top item say it doesn't work with bimmercode even though its recommended and some people say it keeps disconnecting?

Whatever I buy I'd like it to work with other apps if possible for my iphone? There are some apps the monitor car stats like Dash commend? What do you guys think? Or any other apps that you know of that are good to have?

Awaiting replies before I order and thank you!

I got the first one (
Amazon Amazon
). Worked fine with my iPhone. Seemed maybe a little slow on some of the screens with more codes, but I don't have anything to compare it against. But it worked fine, no issues, no disconnects or anything.

Vgate was the old one they recommended and apparently some people had issues with it. Worked fine for both of my cars. I'd go with the one they recommend now for full support if needed from Bimmercode.

I have the Vgate WiFi mentioned earlier with my Android. No issues, but I don't do much else with it like running other apps.

I just ordered the veepeak one, supposed to be better let's hope so! I will use it to make some changes and also turn off the annoying fake engine sound.

Folks, anyone know if this device (along with Bimmercode) works on recoding a 2004 R53? I would like to recode the electric windows and locks, as well as turn off the DSC on startup. Any experience with this in MiniLand?

Bimmercode is 3 gen F series cars. Should be coding info in your section of the forums.

I just recieved my Veepeak OBDII bluetooth device. It connects easily when you open the app and press connect.

I was able to turn OFF the initial message that wants you to “confirm” on the center instrument cluster on every startup. So I am happy that is gone!

But, the seatbelt warning seems to be an issue. I deactivate it, then it comes back “active” shortly after my test drive.

it’s like the computr resets after so many minutes....

anyone have any suggestions?

There were few different seat belt settings if I recall. I changed the one that alerts you at vehicle startup that the belt isn't buckled, but left the one that alerts you if you unbuckle the belt while driving. So basically I think I disabled "initial warning after start" or something like that.

For #2, You could just buckle up before you start the car.

Thats what I do.
