Dinan Elite question....

Sorry if this was answered elsewhere but I couldn't find an answer searching.

I just had the Elite installed on my '17 CMS. Is there a break in or "learning" period? I have felt absolutely NO difference. I haven't driven it a ton, only about 15 miles since the install but I thought I would feel the difference immediately. Also, does the Elite have an iPhone app or is this just a plug it in and that's what you get?

Thanks,

Dave

Dinan Elite does not have an app for it. You should definitely notice a big difference! After all, you're gaining 50 +hp and 75 torque. The easiest way to tell if your Elite is working is to turn on your "sport display" on your MINI where you can monitor your HP output. Before I got my Dinan I could barely get over 180hp on the gauge. Now, I can peak the gauge at 200hp very easily from a full throttle start. If they hooked it up wrong I would think that it would throw a CEL The Elite does ship with a bypass plug that you can install to bypass the Dinan module for maintenance and such. Maybe they installed that in error? It ships with it so maybe they thought it needed to be installed.....

Go into sport mode, if it isn't obvious then it isn't working. Mine worked instantly with no break in period. After some miles it mellowed a bit I assume on ECU learning. If you were in a parking lot and just installed it you might think it was too much power to maneuver.

There should not be any "break in" or "learning" with a piggy back like this.
Get out there, put it in sport and beat on it. If you don't notice more boost then perhaps something it not plugged in right. I'd assume you'd get a CEL though if that was the case.
Driving around part throttle outside of boost probably won't be that noticeable. I had a friend who had a stage 2 tune on his GTI. He said he didn't notice anything. He gave me a ride and I was like "dude, get on it" - he feathered the throttle and would never get into boost. I drove it for him and broke the tires loose in 2nd and 3rd... he just didn't know how to drive a turbo... not saying you're my friend... but just sayin'

Thanks for the input guys. So I've had Stage I II and III S4's before so I'm not foreign to tunes but I've never had a tuned Mini. This is my first go round with Dinan. The dealer told me that the Sport had a break in period but he did not know about the Elite. I got on this thing tonight and I notice absolutely nothing. I'll bring it back up to Mini tomorrow and ask them to check it and see if it's installed correctly.

Let me know how that goes, I too just got an elite installed a couple days ago in my clubman and not sure if its up to its full potential.

+1 make sure its clipped in all the way and correctly, You should feel the difference in a very short time. Did you get a CEL, we have seen CELs do to install error.

No. No codes at all. Interesting thing though.... I had the car serviced in June or July. When I start the car, I see in red... "Service July 2018". I never noticed that before and I"m not sure if it's telling me when I had it serviced or the computer thinks I'm passed due for service. I have an appointment on Tuesday with Mini to see what's up with the Dinan.

And as if on command..... CEL on my way home from work. I pulled over and pushed in the cable to see if it was loose. It was not. So, just to make sure I'm not going crazy, I plugged in the bypass block to see if there was any difference and if the CEL went off. No difference in the power of the car and the CEL is still on. I took off the bypass and plugged the cable back in and made sure it was secure. Still no power gain and the CEL remains. Really bummed about this unit. From everything I've read, I was super pumped to put some giddy up in my CM. Right now it feels like I wasted $1000. I'll let y'all know what happens on Tuesday.

Sorry to hear that. Yes, if its out of the car and the CEL is there something else is going on.

So if the bypass is plugged in and there's still a CEL, that indicates an issue?

Yep, clear the code, drive it. If no CEL until after the unit is plugged in, something on the unit is going funky and contact Dinan and they can troubleshoot over the phone. Or you can shoot us an email with pics.

Now we're getting into things beyond my scope of know how. I don't know how to clear the code. I'm sure there are apps or programs to hook into the car's computer but that's beyond me.

Dealer can do that for free under warranty for you, or have this schwaben tool and do the same thing. Works on all MINIs.

If you have a cell then go back to the dealership and have them figure out why. The car could be in a limp mode right now due to the cel. Once they figure that out and fix whatever i'm hoping you'll notice the increase in boost.

This is just strange. The CEL has disappeared. Dinan is still not working. Car still runs like stock. CEL was on for 2 days and now it's not. Weird. It goes in on Tuesday. Let's see what they find.

I wonder if they let the car go to sleep first.

Install instructions:
During DINANTronics installation, ALL keys must be completely outside this range. If a key remains within range of the car, the vehicle may respond to the key and awaken unexpectedly, which could result in a stored fault and check engine light.

Never install the bypass block with the battery connected. You must follow the procedure as if installing the Dinan fresh. (Key out of range, battery disconnected, wait 10 minutes) then put the bypass block on.

I have always wondered how the Elite acts in the other driving modes, Green, Mid, etc. Does anyone know? I have a JCW Countryman

All modes work well with the Dinan. I run around in mid most of the time with no issues, still very peppy. Green mode does what it is supposed to do by reducing throttle response and it trys to keep you out of boost. Sport mode of course really makes the Dinan shine . Turn traction/stability control off and I can chirp my ALL4 (Pedal Commander helps!). So fun.

Ok so here's what's happened so far. Mini called me 2 days ago. My fuel-pressure sensor was throwing a code so they replaced it. They thought that could be the reason for the Elite not functioning correctly. They called me today and said the car was done. The tech said he drove it and seemed like everything was working well. So, I picked up the car and as anyone would, I floored it out of the parking lot and onto the highway. Folks... I'm just not seeing it. If it's added any power to my Mini, it's minimal at best. Right now I don't know what to think. It's either a faulty unit or my expectations of what the Dinan Elite does has been greatly misunderstood. If using the sport display or "Driving Excitement" display, as Propak suggested, is any indication... I'm still barely hitting 190HP on full throttle in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. a FAR cry from the 247HP that Dinan's website claims. I'm not even hitting 200.
Is it possible that this is all I'm gonna get. Is the Elite less powerful on a CM All 4 because of the added weight? Is it possibly a faulty unit?
Very disappointed and feeling like this was a waste of a lot of money!

Is there anyone in the North Jersey area with knowledge of Dinan and Mini that could help me out with this?
