Jack Pads for Frame Protection

For those who do their own maintenance, are these necessary?

If you apply the floor jack directly to the plastic frame insert you will break the insert. Maybe you will get away with it at the rear but not the front points. You may be able to use the floor jack on the collapsed jack points a number of times if you are lucky but eventually you will be metal on metal and scratch the paint or worse. If you are doing more than chage a tire always use jack stands.

On my '17 F60 they came with the car, so look before you buy.

I've used them when I change from summer to winter tires without problems. So when I plan to change the tires to summer tires, I will be using them when doing it.

Don't know if it matters but I went with something like this, metal vs plastic.

Does anyone make one that fits inside the rectangular plastic frame that can be bolted/screwed in permanently? With my car lowered and the side splitters installed I have to drive it onto some boards to get enough clearance for a some lots to work. I have to do the same to use my floor jack.

Don't know if these fit our car or if you need something similar. https://www.waymotorworks.com/tsw-sh...ck-points.html

You must have the spare tire option (I have RFTs and no tools to R & R wheels came with the car). Can you post a pic of your pads?

I use the ModMINI method for using a 2x4 to jack against that allows easy access to the OEM pick points for my stands.

I modified old hockey pucks to fit my jack. Cost only my time.

I measured the jack pad opening, took a piece of 2x4, cut it to size and use it only when needed. Price was right.

No longer come with 2018's apparently. Had dealer check his 2018 inventory of RFT spec'd 2018 Countryman's and none had a wheel bolt wrench or jack in the boot.
