Oil Cheking/Filling Question??

Have '19 F57 convertible w/ the 2.0 turbo. My question is, when you go thru the computerized (DIC) check of the oil and it shows you the gauge that has the GREEN ribbon that shows MAX and MIN oil levels, how do you determine (when a gap/space is between the two), how much oil is needed to bring the "ribbon" back up to MAX?? Do you add in 1/2qt. increments and preform another "check" or does it indicate how much to add? My Mini dealer told me the system has been used since 2014 (BMW engines), but they could not even give me an answer on this. Just curious, don't have an issue at this time, but am leaving on a trip soon, so would like to be more informed. Thanx for any/all replies in advance. Mac

"...they could not even give me an answer" says a lot about this whole issue and reinforces my opinion of the trending AI dependence stupidity. My potential rant won't help so all I can say is to take an extra quart with and hope for the best.

BTW, excellent choice on body style. You will find that topless motoring IS motoring at its best.

I will be traveling cross country next month and have the same question. So I'm taking minimum of three extra quarts for the hell of it and learning on the way.

I'm getting too old to have to learn/trust this new crap!! An old saying in the firearms industry..."trust but verify" is what I like to live by! Mac

The oil is at the MAX mark at this time w/1700mi. on the clock, so I don't feel there is going to be an issue, but I will have at least one quart in the trunk for the trip. Mac

Another BTW. Did you acquire a wind deflector with that purchase? You really want one for highway driving. It cuts down wind noise like you wouldn't believe. It also makes a semi safe storage cover for stuff 'packed' on the back seat. The average idiot most likely won't know how to get around it to steal your dirty laundry bag.

For 35K, you bet I did! Found it in a nice bag/cover in the trunk. It is installed and I agree with the comments you stated, I.E. security, and to keep stuff from blowing into or out of the back seats. I have to admit that this little car is pretty well designed because I have yet had to vacuum the rear floor boards or seats yet. I think the "wind deflector" changes the air flow some what, so that it keeps the trash out. Mac
