Ahh, yes, you are correct, dunno why I was thinking the odo was engine hours and not mileage traveled. Doh! Must be the mariner in me

Just curious where you're getting your information from.
I'm not saying I don't believe you, it's just that I'm wondering why I haven't been notified by my dealer.
Thanks!

That was the information provided by my SA the day the recall came out. However, I would also refer to the TSB document Coopercaba posted earlier in this thread. See below:

Got my 2104 MCS back yesterday. They replaced the bearings and that was that. No new engine for me. I guess that's fine. This car has always run well and has had no problems to date (nearly 24K miles).

My loaner was a 2016 F55 (4 door) Justa. Had it for about 5 days. I had always wanted to try the 3 cylinder motor. The engine is willing and torque was good, but in the end it just lacks the smoothness and power of my MCS. One issue I did notice is that with the smaller door opening (and being used to a 2 door), I hit my head a lot getting in and out of the F55 (I'm 6'3"). That said, it was kind of nice to open the back door to put a few groceries, etc. in the back seat. Something that isn't easily done in the 2 door.

Had everything (Eng, turbo, trans, clutch, flywheel) changed last month. Only had 4k miles on 6/2014 build. They said they would not reset the odometer. The service manager also said they're looking at five sets of VIN numbers and each one has its own check list to what to be done for repair.

Supposedly all MINI's built from Jan1 2014 to Jan1 2015 are affected by this TSB. This is only for the Cooper S engine.

Got a call from my service department today. Replacing motor, clutch, the whole nine yards. Had to order the motor, but should be in by end of next week. Three other cars in the shop for the same thing. Mine had less than 11K on the clock.

Thankfully my '15 was just was cleared once they replace the thrust bearing. No new motor. Wonder if it had anything to do with the low mileage (just out of break-in?)

Yea if you just over the break in 1500 I'd want it checked again after some time to be sure.

I got mine back earlier this week with only the new bearing installed. My MCS has 23K miles, so not exactly a low mileage issue here.

Friends,

I just got my car back. A few of you asked for the work order report so I've attached it here.

Bearings were worn and the crank was discolored.

The dealer has a huge influx of people coming in for this recall. As of today, they've replaced 12 engines under the campaign and 8 before it was even issued. As a result of the demand, it took them 2 days just to get mine on the rack for inspection and about a week for the parts/engine to come in, plus install. Supposedly they had to push out the scheduling of the TSB since all the techs and loaners were getting tied up with engine replacements.

It's great to have my car back, especially after driving the gutless Justa Countyman (sorry Countryman drivers) while it was in the shop.

The WO states a "short engine", but I'm guessing that's not the same as a short block because they don't list nearly enough small bits and parts to scavenge from the old engine.

Oh well, I just got the recall notification for my 2015 mini cooper s concerning the main crankshaft bearings. The car has 7,500 miles on it and it performs fine with no apparent symptoms. The car will go in for service on Tuesday. Hopefully it will be a quick and satisfactory repair. This is my fourth recall or service bulletin repair. I had the manual transmission crown replaced after my car had been popping out of first gear. Then the air condition evaporator had to be replaced to address a foul mildew odor. Finally, the car is going in for side impact retrofitting for the rear seat side panels, as well as the crank shaft bearing issue. I love the way the car drives, but these recalls are beginning to affect my confidence in the product. Hopefully, this will be the end of the recalls / problems. BTW, the service has been fairly professional. I hope that there will be no damage to the car in the course of doing this most recent service. Will keep posted.

Just curious as to what dealer this is.
Glad you're back on the road. 👍

Also, did you or receive any type of compensation for the inconvenience?

Habberstad Mini in Huntington, New York. No compensation. Had the use of a loaner mini for two weeks during the two weeks it took to fix last two recalls / service bulletin items. One of the concerns I have relates to the condition of my car (appearance). I keep it garaged and it looks like new. Last recall resulted in very minor nick in radio screen and trim. I am apprehensive that with such a major recall item (main crank bearing), there is a greater chance that the car will receive some garage rash. Oh well, we will see.

Mine is in this range but I haven't heard anything from my dealer yet nor has anything popped up when I put my vin into the open recall site?

This happened to be my third time in the dealer in a month - TPMS malfunction, this TSB to replace the bearing, and for the shifter and I told them they needed to make me happy (not that any of this was the dealer's fault.

They gave me a very large bag full of MINI swag - a briefcase, notebook, pen and a polo shirt.

This is a brand new engine and architecture on the first model-year run (2014 was so short that I'm lumping 2015 into this assessment). These growing pains happen with new cars from all manufacturers. We're not talking about toasters here. Cars are very complex machines and there's only so much you learn from testing. The important thing is that BMW is recognizing the issues and correcting them.
