F55/F56 Bad air smell

I have this weird smell too but I almost never use AC. Could it still be coming from the evaporator? I also coded so that the AC doesn't turn on with automatic climate control.
I'm afraid if I take this to the dealer, they will just say "oh, that's a normal behavior", like always.

It is most definitely not normal behavior. The drain tube for the evaporator cannot sufficiently handle the load and it backs up and soaks the foam around the evaporator causing the smell after some time. I believe that the design was changed for the 2015 model, but the change could have happened after some 2015 models were built. Definitely check with your MINI Service department. It is a pretty involved repair (removing most of the dash) and it will only get worse if not addressed. I have a 2015 and have not had the issue, but living right on the ocean, I rarely use my AC as well.

Bad air smell
Add another one to the list I am taking mine in tomorrow for an evaporator replacement due to foul odor when first turning on the AC it is a 2015 MCS F56 with auto air they will have the car for a few days. Even though it is inconvenient to have to take the car in for repair the dealer has been Amazing I do not mind having a loaner for a few days plus it gets detailed for free 😎

My 2015 F56 is in the shop right now. It's on day two and I got a chance to see the car in the shop with most of it's guts yanked out. Dash was on the ground and several parts strewn across the interior. Really hope it all goes well, looks like major surgery to get to this evaporator. All this and my first oil change service.

I did get my evaporator taken care of by my dealer, but now there's a big scratch/scuff mark on my handbrake. Dealer was great by the way. I'll probably have to take it in again to get a replacement handle.

I've got the same problem
Hi all,
Does anyone have any problems with the air smell? I took my 2014 hardtop in 3 times, and currently it's in there again for this issue. They contacted mini USA twice about this and still no fix. I was thinking about lemoning my car, but not sure what the process is in Florida or if it's even worth it.. Help!

Its been 3 times already on my car. My car is also mini cooper hardtop 2014, my lemonlaw will be expire on this september. U wanna lemon them with me? It would be better if we have witness or something. I'm in tampa, florida and i usually go to wesley chapel branch. Let me know if you think the same way.

Friend just took her '15 F55 S in to the dealer. They told her that her May build missed the cutoff for the bad evaporator so she should have the new evaporator. They aren't sure what they should do since the "new" evaporator shouldn't have the problem.
I'm wondering how they know it's the new evaporator as they haven't pulled the front off the car yet?
I told her to tell them we'd read it was build up through the end of May.
Sigh,

The evaporator is behind the dash -- I don't think they have to pull the front off.
Just got my May 2014 build Cooper S replaced this past week. I was talking to the tech about some other items and he said it was a royal pain to replace. They have to drop the exhaust as well to access the drain line from the evaporator.
I don't have the TSB # but on my paper work it shows MINI campaign SIB-64-02-14; Remove and replaced evaporator, replace micro filters, check drain fittings, recharge A/C system.
