Not so much.....when your car comes with summer tires and it rains or snows for over 1/2 the year & you have another vehicle to drive most owners would do the same thing! Not my preference, but I plan on having it for a long long time, so it's not getting thrashed! :-)
I am thinking of changing my own oil this summer (either Lubro or MINI synthetic)....right now I'm at 628 miles LOL! But I'm at 1 year since picking it up new.
5W-40 LubroMoly is all my BMW mechanic uses in all of his BMW's and MINI's. I am thinking of possibly going with this. Anyone else use this oil?
Another question: May I assume the oil change procedure for the JCW is the same as for the MCS?...they are both 2.0L engines. 5.3L capacity? I might have missed it in this thread, but just checking.

I never did get a reply to my question....and a correction, I said 5.3L above...I meant to say 5.3Qts (or 5.0L) for oil capacity when changing oil & filter. Are the capacities the same for the MCS & the JCW 2.0L B48????
I never did see a torque value for the drain plug in this thread either (not that I really need it that bad). You know, BMW used to list the torque
values of every maintenance part of their vehicles (in a manual). Is there such a thing for the BMW/MINI?
I too am extremely disappointed that my MINI Owner's Manual doesn't even list the oil capacity of the engine! Shame on them!
Then I'd call your dealer & ask the service dept. Crazy that info is not in your manual. Guess when they deleted the dipstick they deleted that info too.
Its about: ~4.22 Liters for the Turbo 1.5L F56 Oil capacity ( 4.459 quarts ), new MINI oil bottle are in Liter now. They like to change things up on us.
I changed the oil on my 14 F56 S last weekend (1000 mile change after getting my new engine) and it only took the 5qt oil change jug, I know I drained more than that out of the engine as my drain pan overfilled the jug.
I have done the system level check twice now, the first time was immediately after the change (after warm up of course), second time was after my commute to work (approx 50 miles since change). Both times the computer says I'm at max, well at the bar before max I'm assuming the two bars on the gauge are the area I want to be. prior to the change my reading was in the same spot so I assume that mark is full.

I know what it should be, was surprised myself. unless my oil change jug had more than 5 qts. All I can go on is what the computer tells me... really wish I had a dipstick.
Has anybody found out the torque specs for the oil drain plug? I just finished my first 1500 mile oil change. I spotted a small leak from the plug after driving around the block and checking for any leaks. Had to tighten twice to get it to stop leaking. The last tighten attempt felt like i had to my back into it. It had me worried i might over torque it.
- Oil Filter Housing 25Nm or 18.4 ft-lbs - 32mm
- Filter Housing Oil Drain Plug 5NM or 3.7 ft-lbs or 44.5 INCH-lbs - 13mm
- Oil Pan Drain Plug 20Nm or 14.8 ft-lbs -17mm
Good info! Where did you get it from? Just curious....I used to have BMW torque value manual years ago but sadly our house fire consumed it! I really miss that thing! I doubt they still make one now.
1) I am changing the factory oil @ 1200km, and will send off a sample to have it analyzed (plan on using wearcheck.ca)
2) I will do my own oil change, and will use jack stands to raise the vehicle. I will let the oil drain, with the jack stands removed and let it sit at least 15 minutes on a level surface.
3) I will open up the oil filler cap, and blow some compressed air to help flush out any remaining oil and particles left behind.
4) Purchase an OEM oil filter from my local BMW / Mini dealer (it was $22.00CAD) and got it same day.
5) I plan on using exclusively Royal Purple 0W40 (going to order a 5 gallon jug, since I cannot find that weight anywhere locally), but for now will be using the 0W20.
6) 1 Quart = 0.946352946 Liter, so if you need 5 litres to fill with oil filter change, I can see how 5Quartz would be showing up a little short (4.73litres). My oil level is perfect, so, before refilling, I will measure out the amount of oil removed (can't go wrong with that, as a starting point, right?)
