Help! What is this noise from my Mini
Hello!
Just purchased this 2015 Mini Cooper S from Mini of Allentown and after a jaunt to visit my family in Pittsburgh, my Mini started making this horrible squealing sound. I wasn't able to replicate it the following day, but the next day it returned. Here is a video - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1vY...MWyvSLZ974sleo - you can best hear it at 45 seconds. If anyone has any ideas as to what this might be, I would greatly appreciate it! |
sounds like you've got a seized pully? any smell of burnt rubber?
|
Thanks for the suggestion - no noticeable smells.

Man, that is a sound for sure!
I had this once and it was a stupid rock that got between my caliper and rim. Once it fell out no more noise |
Who did you buy your car from? If it was Lauren I’d give her a call & she will hook you up with service. We bought our 2015 Countryman S All4 from MINI of Allentown and so far they’ve been great to deal with.
It’s hard to tell from a short video but try to isolate the noise to if driving or sitting....that way you might isolate the sound to drivetrain/brakes or engine. Good luck! |
first thought would be slipping auxiliary/altenator belt...

Agree, sounds like a belt.

Update: They replaced the harmonic balancer pulley that had dry rotted and cracked. Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem and it returned today after a two-week hiatus. It seems to only happen when the car is moving / in gear, not in neutral. I think it may be clutch related. Great suggestion on isolating the noise, @02fanatic ! I also bought my car from Lauren and although they fixed this one error, they haven't solved the problem and I kind of feel like they sold me a certified car that they didn't actually certify.
More info to come. |

More info to come. I had a pilot bearing in the clutch go bad once and it sound very similar to this. That might be something to check, although this would usually only make a noise when you press the clutch pedal in. I understand your frustration, but most dealerships are not out to rack someone over the coals on a car. They probably did a proper inspection, but let's face it, used cars break. Sometimes just a day afterwards from a solid service. I know you probably feel pretty grumpy since you just got it, but I would recommend giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt - at least at first. |
