Eventuri Intake Functional Hood Scoop Review
 

I always think the more information out there on products the better. I know I love reading reviews of things I am looking to buy, so hopefully you will all find this helpful. This was installed on a 2016 F56 JCW Automatic with a Dinan Elite. The car has 26.6k miles, 2k with the Dinan.

*Currently 650 miles on intake + Dinan Elite with zero issues. I've driven the car through 40 miles of light to heavy rain without a problem with the open hood scoop*

November 22nd, Eventuri, after testing etc... for at least a year released their carbon fiber intake kit for the F5X Cooper S/JCW. This kit included a new functional hood scoop and the ducting to seal to the hood. Intake kit here: http://www.eventuri.net/products/f56...-cooper-s-jcw/

My previous experience with an intake on my 2016 F56 JCW was the Cravenspeed (actually I purchased the AFE and K&N as well but sent them back due to crappy quality). The Cravenspeed fit fine, quality was good, but the car felt like it lost a bit of low end, and was suffering from heatsoak. I took that intake off the car and vowed not to do another intake as I was going to do the Dinan Elite which was made for a stock car. Fast forward a couple months and the itch is unbearable, I wanted some eye candy under the hood as I take my car to car meets, and shows and like to pop the hood, except its all stock.

At this point it came down to two different setups. The Amsechs Japan Carbon Intake Kit http://abeshokai.jp/amsechs/products...ontentsAreaTop which I think is still a very good choice for those looking for a more OEM kit, or the Eventuri. I went with the Eventuri because who doesn't want something that badass.

Install: Very easy. Took about 40 minutes total, including removing the stock intake. The oem hood scoop is a little difficult to remove because of the tight space and clips, but the Eventuri scoop fastens into place using the oem method, 6 clips and a bolt. New clips are included with the kit as you will break some taking the stock one out. I did have to make a slight adjustment for a better seal from the filter housing to the ducting, it wasn't an issue to begin with, I am just a perfectionist when it comes to these things.

Fit: Everything fit together as it should. No holes misaligned, everything seals up, the scoop fit perfectly.

Quality: These are really my first carbon fiber parts, but they all seem to be great. Eventuri really puts some attention to detail into their parts, as they should since this kit cost $1,550. The MAF housing is the same size as stock, CNC machined, with a nice tight seal for the MAF sensor gasket. The middle of the MAF housing is rubber insulated, and their included bolts snug down without issue. The included hose clamps even have "Eventuri" stamped on them, very nice touch.

Driving Impressions: I've put 80 miles on the intake so far, zero weird hesitations or hiccups. No CEL. The car drives exactly how it did before the intake, super smooth. I do notice some better throttle response, and MAYBE an increase on the butt dyno, but I can't confirm that one. Eventuri states the following on their website as far as power numbers: Performance Increase Cooper S: 8-15hp (Stage 1 Tune with stock intake vs Eventuri), 15-25ft-lbPerformance Increase Cooper JCW: 15-27hp, 20-26ft-lb (Stage 2 mods/tune with stock intake vs Eventuri). The difference being with this kit, your gains won't disappear once you shut the hood.

Looks really sweet and a plus for guys out in Cali it'll never get wet or snowed on/in!! $$ is up there but a "non-functioning" carbon hood scoop is about $400 at least this "does something".

Thanks! I'm in South Florida, so rain/water was a definite concern. Eventuri is based outside of London, and they said they had been testing it in their wet weather and made some design decisions so that water should not be an issue.

Nice review. We were excited to have this come out.

Going to keep this updated as the mileage on the intake progresses. So far, 160 miles on the intake without issue. Should be getting a little rain later in the week, so we will see how that goes. Unflattering pic taken this morning below:

How does your exhaust sound? You do have sport exhaust correct? Or a performance exhaust? I was curious if it still had the snap crackle pop sound when sport exhaust is engaged in sport mode? Great job too on the review and it is much appreciated by us all. It's an expensive mod. I posted to see which version to purchase as I have a 2019 JCW Coupe with a tad over 300 miles. I wanted to purchase the Dinan Elite but someone told me it might not run on my JCW with it being so new? Thank you again for your time and consideration is posting the review. Keep us all informed how she performs. ;)

Talked a little about it here, we added the PDF install doc in the description and noted it. Best to look at the MAF sensor hook up first.

About 550 miles on the system so far in combination with the Dinan Elite with zero complaints. No CEL, car drives like it did before intake except sharpened throttle response, more sound, zero heatsoak.

So it got water tested this morning on the drive to work. I spent about 10-15 minutes and a few miles in heavy rain at 30-50mph. I checked the intake out after getting to work. There was some large drops of water in the ducting directly under the scoop, some light mist on the sides of the walls leading to the filter, however the bottom of the ducting where the drainhole is before the filter was completely dry without any "standing" water in it. There were no effects to the car while driving, even going into boost, no hiccups.

Supposed to hit some rain after work as well so will update.

Thats good, I took my ECS CF R55-R61 intake (has the drip holes also) through a couple hurricanes and no problems, based on what i see on there's it should not be an issue.

If you never did this install would the engine compartment be completely dry? Or was it wet due to the mod?

Honestly no idea, I never popped the hood after driving in the rain with the stock intake.

I'll check that out then. To be honest I never have either and considering my JCW only has 360 miles on it. One question though? If you have sport exhaust turned on how does it sound? I was curious if it altered the sound of the exhaust?
