AFE intake? I don't think so

I am pretty apprehensive nowadays when it comes to car mods since I used to have a Mazdaspeed 3 that I modded too much and caused more headaches than needed, however with all turbo cars being able to actually hear the turbo is awesome. So I started my search for an intake. I loved the design of the AFE, how it bolts onto the top half of the oem airbox, has a dry filter and the option to add a lid if necessary. I placed an order directly with AFE and had the intake in my hands 3 days later. Check out the pics below to see what you might get from them. Here is a link to the intake: https://afepower.com/afe-power-51-12...-intake-system

Inside of intake tube showing the horrible finishing, left over welding material and coating/paint chipping off near the maf sensor mount:

The paint was also chipping off in other places. Needless to say I requested a refund and return shipping label immediately and it is on its way back to AFE. I went with the K&N intake instead which will be here next week. Ordered that one off amazon so any issues and a return will be easy.

I'm surprised. I've bought different items from aFe and they were quality parts.
It least it seems they responded sort of quickly, didn't they ?

They did respond quickly, and did provide me with a shipping label to return it even though their policy on their website states "customer pays for return shipping". However, I am not taking the chance on getting a replacement and just going with another brand. The fact that something left the warehouse in that condition, where possible paint chips could flake off into the turbo etc taints them in my view.

K&N also disappointed me quality wise. Now I am looking at cravenspeed, and based on the picture they sent me of the inside of the maf tube, it looks excellent.

If you wanted a box style system why didn't you go with VIP customs?

Thought I'd be a little safer from issues if I went with a bigger company, and there just isn't a lot out there when it comes to those VIP intakes. Also saw a few members getting check engine lights without being able to solve the issue.

I had a VIP on my 2014 F56 and moved it over to my 2016, never a check engine light. I run a JB4 on my 16 and a scan gauge, wonder what code they had ?
