Used Mini - warranty coverage?

New-to-me 2104 Hatchback, 14,500 mi.

Is the warranty still good?

Is the 3-year 36,000 mile free service still good??

3 year 36K miles should still be good, as is the remainder of the factory warranty. If it's a CPO car you'll probably have an extended warranty.

My girlfriend recently bought a used 2015 F56 with 18k. MINI said the 36k maintance warrenty is no longer transferable to second owner. If you bought it from a Mini dealership they could offer you a certified warrenty with maintance plan.

The 50k manufacture warrenty however stays with the vehicle regardless of owner.

Must be a recent thing, because it transferred on my CPO car. The standard warranty was also extended to 5 years 75K miles.

You bought an extended warranty to cover up to 5/75?

Could you explain?

vetsvette 08-30-2016 09:01 PM

Nope. I didn't buy it, it came with my CPO car. I bought the car after a short time lessor turned the car in with 5K miles.

I bought an extended warranty when I picked up my 2015 JCW...since I don't put a lot of miles on the car I opted for the 7 year/70,000 miles warranty (covers engine and drivetrain). So, any engine issues are covered for 7 years. The 36 month bumper to bumper coverage is for everything...and I would think it goes with the car if sold, but maybe not? Seems it should!

The Maintenance/Service Warranty is NOT TRANSFERABLE.

Please read this in the service details on Mini's website.

NON-TRANSFERABILITY: Complimentary Scheduled MINI Maintenance program is an exclusive benefit that applies to the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle, Aftersales Mobility Program vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle from an authorized MINI dealer in the United States (including Puerto Rico). Coverage is not transferable to subsequent purchasers, owners, or lessees. The sole exception to the non-transferability of coverage is that household transfers – transfers within the United States (including Puerto Rico) to members of the household of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a MINI vehicle from an authorized MINI dealer – will not terminate coverage. Household transfers are limited solely to transfers to a current or former spouse or spousal equivalent, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, or grandchild from the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a vehicle. In the event of a household transfer, purchasers, owners, or lessees of a MINI vehicle should promptly advise their authorized MINI dealer to document and confirm the household transfer for purposes of coverage. The payoff of a loan on a vehicle by the initial purchaser and the purchase of a leased vehicle by the initial lessee are not considered transfers for purposes of coverage.

Well, that's somewhat of a "Bummer", but at least it means I don't have to drive a long way to the Mini dealer, I can have it serviced locally.

But the "Complimentary Scheduled MINI Maintenance program" and the normal vehicle warranty (e.g. 36 months/36,000 miles) are not the same thing is it? Just an fyi...this complimentary free maintenance program has been discontinued by BMW for my 2017 vehicles.

Another 2104 Mini - Holy Crap! ;) Where are you guys finding these cars of the future?

Kidding of course. I agree with the above posters for warranty info.

They changed the program, not sure exact date with MINI, but I believe the 2014 was still transferrable.

At least thats what I was told, will find out at some point.

Bought my used '14 Roadster on 07/30/16 from a Mini dealer and the 36 month maintenance program transferred over.
