Never liked sunroof

It lets light thru too much. The screen needs to be solid.

On hot sunny days, the inside gets unnecessarily too hot. I bought off the lot and the dealer did not have one car with low options. I am custom ordering next time.

I miss having a sunroof. I would have bought one if they were like they were in the 1980s.

I think the next time I buy a car, I will not try so hard to not get a sunroof. The "sunroof delete kit" they advertise on White Roof Radio, from motoringstripes.com, would work for me. But a solid screen would be better, especially if it covered the whole roof.

This is the reason I never get a sunroof in a MINI. Ridiculous.

Not much sun where it comes from, they don't understand. I much prefer the solid sliding cover in our VW. I can do without the roof opening as well.

I think maybe you stick head out window if want sun, or drive with eyes closed.

Add limo dark tint to help lower the light level. Use something like 3M™ Crystalline Automotive Films to block the heat.

So, ya.........................
I kinda agree. Ive got one in mine, and I kinda don't like it. Im gonna have to tint the sunroof or something, plus, you can't put on a whole roof decal on a sunroof car. sucks. My wife likes it though.
But on another subject, Dude, you're Flicker is awesome. Everything you've got on that are things I like. Broncos, fishtanks, fishing, Minis. Great stuff.
Also, what did you do with the BBS wheels you had on the green mini? And what size are they?

I can relate to mikeswagon since I lived in Scotland for three years, and Michigan's not a whole lot sunnier...Anyway, I love my sunroof. I have it open more than closed, even in the winter. Question for mikeswagon...I visited your fine country last year and couldn't rent a Mini (rented a Golf which was nice)...Any recommendations for next time?

Thanks! Sadly they were just replicas, ESMs 18x8 et 32. The fitment didn't work for me in the front so I sold them. I got them originally to test to see if legimate LM's would fit in that size. So all in all it was a good decision to go cheap first.

I share you same feeling. I liked the old sunroof when they were metal and you could completely close them and have no sun. The Mini Sunroof is too hot. I had a wrap put on my Mini and had the sunroof covered. Also, I have a windshield reflector which I cut and put in the sun roof with the reflector facing up or when the factory shade is pull forward, completely hidden from view. You cannot see it from the outside or inside looking down and it really reduces the heat. Also, when you cut up a windshield reflector you can use the suction cups to attach it to the glass roof and still pop it up.

It would be nice if the rear side windows on the hardtop vent.

I had one on my 2007 MCS and thought I liked the extra light it let in (I'm in Prescott, a mile high). But I rarely opened it. Now I have tinted windows and love the darker interior. Obviously I can't get a sunroof on my car lol.

I'm sure a lot of it is based on where you live. Here at the beach where it gets to 100+ degrees regularly there's just no way in hell. Our e91 and w124 wagons both have sunroofs but they have full shaded covers on them.

+1

Many other makers sell their sunroof cars with a solid sliding interior panel ...even vented, like on VW'S...
imo this seems to be the best compromise .
On my r53, the sunroof always let in too much light and heat...the sun would cause glare at the wrong spots ....and the shade on a roll was kinda getto compared to other solutions from other makers....just never really worked as well as intended imo.

It's sunny today

It's the one thing I wish I had specced, just makes for a more airy feel to the car.

I think the question about hiring minis has been asked on a few forums, and I don't think anyone had an answer. I think the cost of Minis rules them out, people wanting smaller cars want cheap/cheerful

I looked everywhere for a Mini mikeswagon. I wanted something familiar since I had to adjust to driving on the other side of the road again...

Oh, what was the fitment issue?

I agree !! How hard could it be ? My '76,'86 Accords and all the minivans we've owned had them. Would there be a structural issue ?

I was surprised that the sunroof can not be completely closed off, but I think the screen does a good enough job shading the car. I live in sunny Florida too.

the sunroof adds another 25 kgs, at the best possible position - like the battery, which also has an "ideal place" with its 20 kgs, these 50 kgs enhance your coffee racer optical to the limit.

However if you go for sunroof, you could think of replacing the the entire mechanism with 2 lightweight shells to reduce 2 kgs

For me the sunroof is a costy add-on in the pursuit to top the 40.000 barrier.

15 $ worth of vinyl wrap and my sunroof no longer bothers me

I HATE sunroofs, bmw forces me to have them, and mini basically does too
