Oxford Mini Plant
Well this past week I've been in London for work and I ended up with some free time today so I was able to get away and take a tour at the Mini plant in Oxford and if anyone ever gets over this way I recommend it. As a car lover it was awsome to watch and learn how are car was built and I got to talk to the folks who made our cars. So if your F55 or F56 is in production right now I probably watched part of it get put together today :) I wish I could of gotten pictures inside the plant but they made us all put our phones in lockers, all I was able to get was outside and in the museum.

Very cool! Did you take anymore pictures?
I have a bunch of the museum that we were allowed to take pictures of, I can post them if you guys want.
Ya! Would love to see them. :)
Awesome! Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing. :)

No problem, it was allot of fun, I didn't know that plant has been around for a bit, heck it even has it's own hospital and dentist office on site for the workers and our guide had worked there for 40 plus years so he had all kinds of information to give us, allot of different cars have been made there.
Thank you for sharing. Wish I could make it there some time!
Great Pic's, they rekindle memories when I and ten fellow MINIiac's from PhillyMINI visited the factory in 2005. Awesome place to see !!!!
That would be fun to tour. Great collection of Mini models......thanks for posting.

I'm going to England for business in February, I will add this to my list of things I want to do in my free time!

I'm hopefully getting on a tour in Feb, haven't been on one for 3 or 4 years now. |
Thanks for the pics. Looks like they have totally changed their layout since I was there in 2006. I was lucky enough to get a private one on one tour when they were making R53s and R56s on the production line as the R56 was still not avail yet. Was all really cool to see and if anyone gets the chance do it.

No pins I hate to say but the experience though was worth going.
Yes, worth it, did you get anything at the gift shop. Is the gift shop still open ?
The gift shop is open still, picked up a coffee mug and polo shirt :)
Nice :)

This is an old thread, but maybe someone will help me plan a tour. I'm going to England in September on a British car tour (primarily classic British cars). It's a group tour, but I added 4 days in London at the end of the trip. I won't have a car. Any suggestions on how to handle transportation from London area (don't know where yet) to Oxford?
It's not very far you can probably take a bus. We went there in 2011 and I tried to get a tour but I Emailed them and they didn't get back to me. I don't think you can just show up and go in there. Supposedly the most computerized car plant in the world. Most of the car is built with no human involved they said.
Yeah, there are lots of buses going to Oxford, but they're tours of Oxford and other areas. I was hoping to find one that would take me to the plant. On the brighter side, I now have reservations for a B & B in London (center of the city).

I haven't been to Oxford, but I've been to Oxnard.
Does that count? |
