Mini forgot to install the sport suspension
Hello all,
I finally got my Cooper S hardtop this Monday. It was quite a long wait it seemed but the car came out looking fantastic and Im really pleased with it.
Unfortunately Mini forgot to install the sport suspension I optioned for. I purchased the JCW exterior kit so this $500 part was no charge. I did select the no charge upgrade and it shows in the pdf I sent my salesman.
Anyways I found out the day after delivery that this item was not installed.
The sales manager is on vacation so my salesman has no solution for me until he can speak with his manager. I should have more info next Tuesday.
Anyways I was just wondering what some of you think I should expect from my dealer? I was simply hoping they would order the sport suspension kit and install it for me. On the phone I got the feeling my salesperson was not too inclined to do this.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Nick

So I guess the ball could have been dropped by Mini, the dealer or both.

Regardless who dropped the ball, someone should make it right.

Thanks for the cool link! I just checked it out and there is no mention of a sport suspension option. I would have to think the dealer did not select it when they entered the order?
Good idea on the JCW suspension upgrade. I will try for the standard sport suspesnion at no charge and keep the JCW option in the back of my mind!

Have you used the BMW VIN Decoder to check the options list yourself?

Unfortunately, it seems he's already taken delivery of the car, which is contractually accepting the car as-is in most states, so any real negotiating power will come down to the dealership and MINIUSA's good will.
On an upbeat note, the car looks fantastic. I really like the Electric Blue with black roof and the JCW 18"s. Very nice.

Just to confirm, everything Reyphile says about the car, i'm in complete agreement. I think that Mini could have done something better for the Aero kit in regards to the front bumper. I'd really have to see this in person to make a solid statement though.

Dealership should make things right so make sure you stay on this.
BTW, the car looks great! Really love how aggressive that front end is. Let us know how it goes!

The plot thickens ...
For grins I looked at one dealers on hand stock and found a MCS with the JCW Exterior Package (2A38555) and one with Sport Suspension (2A58404). The spec sheets for each are attached.
Note that the one with the JCW Exterior Package does not have option 226 (Sport Suspension Settings) listed like the second car. All the other options in the JCW Exterior Package are listed individually:
2HV - Track Spoke Wheels
3A1 - JCW Aero Kit
325 - Rear Spoiler
785 - White Turn Signals
Could it be that the MINIUSA Configurator is wrong and that Sport Suspension Settings are not included?
Maybe its time to start a new thread asking those with the JCW Exterior Package to do a VIN check to see if option 226 is listed.

I know the sport suspension option is going away not until 2016 , but it might be that it was missed or the configuration issue.

I read a report on Motoringfile today that indicated that the sport suspension option is being dropped due to a lack of demand. This was supposed to affect the 2016 MY builds but maybe MINI had already stopped ordering the parts and subsequently the item code is automatically deleted from incoming orders at the factory. And yes, it would have been appropriate to inform you of that before your vehicle arrived. By the way... nice color choice!

Thats interesting but I wonder if the models speced with the JCW kit were simply not optioned with the sports suspension? Is there really any way of knowing?
Though it seems odd to spec out a car in such an aggressive fasion and forgoe the suspension option...

Intersting that it is going to be discontinued. I have wondered how big of a difference a $500 suspension kit can make. it must not be worth the trouble for them to offer it anymore.
Hopefully I can get something to sharpen the handling, so far it feels just like my wifes base cooper...

Upon further review ...
With the MINIUSA configurator adding the JCW Exterior Package doesn't automatically add the Sport Suspension Settings option to the build. The Sport Suspension Settings has to be added as a no cost option.
This is done under the Customize This Package ...
I would imagine the dealer's ordering system is similar.
I can see where this might lead to omissions, as either the customer or Motoring Advisor might think it's automatically included.
If you kept a copy showing the option selected the dealer doesn't have a leg to stand on
Since Sport Suspension is being eliminated for the 2016 model year, I doubt any dealers are specifying this option unless requested by a customer.

Well I saved every email I sent my salesman and I have the PDF's saved as well so I am well backed up on that front.
Now just have to hope they are a dealership of their word. As someone mentioned allready I have taken delivery of the car so Im sure they could technically get out of this situation.
All I can say is that my wife and I are 31 years old and we each buy a new Mini every 3-4 years. How they handle the situation will determine how we do business wth Mini/BMW in the future. This is the fourth Mini we have bought so far since 2012...

I don't believe they can legally avoid liability for damages arising from selling you something other than what you had agreed upon. An estimate for installing the sport suspension springs, shocks, and anti-sway bars plus a trip to small claims court should overcome any reluctance on their part.
Otoh, if you knew the sport suspension was missing and accepted the car anyway...
