This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things

I went to work and parked my car at 11:45a (I park on a typical one way city street (in Brooklyn) with parking on either side). I came out to my car at about 9:30pm to go home. As I was approaching my car, it was partially on the sidewalk. I seriously thought I parked on the sidewalk somehow and was thinking of how much of an idiot I was and walked to the front of the car to look for a ticket. Smashed. I had no idea what happened, there was a note on my windshield telling me which police station to go to for the police report (thank god). So I got in my car to attempt to drive home (I live 2 miles from work) and figured I'd just deal with it at home. Started the car, TPMS alerts me that my right rear tire is flat. I go to the back of the car, smashed. At this point someone local was walking his dog and witnessed the accident earlier and told me that a lady was trying to park or something, hit my car, and my car flew into the acura MDX in front of me (after the fact, my dash cam turned on and I saw my car plowed into the MDX). Everything should be OK as far as being covered, but I'm thinking it's a total loss (I'll find out tomorrow) because she moved my rear axle pretty good. It really sucks because I went through the whole ordering process for this car and it was exactly how I wanted it. There's no way I'll be able to wait for an ordered one if I have to replace it.

Aww man, that's horrible. I'm so sorry that happened to you!

Maybe your dealership will spot you a loaner while you order a new one?

tattedXB Mar 17, 2015 03:42 PM

Wow, that sucks - sorry man :(

SpartanVet Mar 17, 2015 03:56 PM

That's heartbreaking, especially after waiting 2+ months and finally enjoying your new vehicle:(

TheBigNewt Mar 17, 2015 04:28 PM

That really sucks man, sorry. I'll tell you from what I saw on my one trip to NYC I don't know if I wouldn't drive a freaking beater if there. I realize you probably don't park on the street at home, but still.

americo11 Mar 17, 2015 04:41 PM

Horrific!!!!! So sorry My Mini Brother, I would be devastated as I'm sure you are. At least they left a note! Could have been a nightmare if they didn't...just sayin!

sabrownfl Mar 17, 2015 06:22 PM

Crikey! That is one heck of a "parking" incident.

MINIMAN1411 Mar 17, 2015 06:28 PM

This makes me want to cry, so sad to see a fellow Blazing Red identical twin get smashed like that, I hope your able to work out fixing it or getting a new one.

Damn, that was all done due to someone parking ?

Call your Motoring Advisor, they still have the specs on your order and ask them to scan dealer inventories for one with same/similar build....Good Luck !!!

Horhey Mar 17, 2015 06:56 PM

Sorry that happened to you. Ouch, it hurts to look at that. Parking on the street in Philly and worrying about what might happen, I can feel your pain. Very best of luck - hopefully you'll be satisfied with the result.

jay524 Mar 17, 2015 07:21 PM

That sucks! I'm glad there were witnesses and a police report was written up. Hope you can sort it all out with the insurance company of the offending vehicle.

That's my question! All that came from someone trying to park their car? Are you F*#@!NG kidding me?!

Looks salvageable though so I suspect you'll be fine eventually.

I am so sorry to hear this. The pictures made me want to throw up.

I know some people think it is not possible to do damage like this parking but it is possible. I had a nissan that some lady "swipped" while trying to park and the whole side of my car and both tires were destroyed on the driver side. People are crappy at parking.

I hope that you can salvage it or find a replacement ASAP!

VicSkimmr Mar 18, 2015 05:34 AM

How hard must she have hit your car that it flew into the car in front of it and did that much damage? Some people just don't deserve to have the privilege of driving.

my exact thought. I'm not a city guy so I'm not familiar with "parking incidents" but WTF? This damage had to have some amount of speed involved.

Damn that's awful...was she drunk??

Helix13mini Mar 18, 2015 07:45 AM

Sorry, man.

Trying to park? That's a heavy hit for parking.

Good gracious!

It would be very difficult for me to keep my composure if I walked out to that situation.

Thankfully no one was hurt and hopefully everything will be covered as you said but careless people are everywhere and so are the cowards whom never leave their contact info if they've done damage to someone else's property.

That's too bad. Hope it all works out as well as possible for you.

If I walked out and saw my baby all smashed up like that...man, I dont even want to think about it. So sorry this happened to you. At least the police were notified.

Maybe the dealership will give you a loaner if it is a complete loss, and you can order a JCW F56

StevenZoz Mar 18, 2015 06:33 PM

Police report claims she caught a flat on her front left tire (2015 Kia) and lost control, hitting my car, and so on. In the coding, it also says she was slowing and stopping prior to the crash, but that much damage? Maybe texting? I find out the verdict tomorrow and finally at least get a rental vehicle from her insurance.

Diana De Van Mar 18, 2015 07:10 PM

I like the suggestion for the JCW! In other words this may be a blessing in disguise. :)

Reminds me of my "side swipe" incident whereby a Florida driver in a Ford Flex changed lanes abruptly. Pretty much all the same panels as you, the bonnet , wheel well plasticy thingies and LED headlight damage amounting to $ 8000. But no frame or axle damage so a full repair was undertaken .....which makes my car worth less when the JCW arrives and I'm tempted to trade.... *tears*
So ii am kinda hoping your car is a write off in a way...goodluck!

indierocke Mar 19, 2015 12:50 AM

Ugh man, I really feel for you... this would be my nightmare. Hopefully everything gets resolved to your satisfaction and they get you taken care of as quick as possible. Best of luck.

There was surveillance video of her trying to park
