Auto Trans -- 1st gear shifts jerky?

Seems like when I go around a corner, I'm usually at a speed where the transmission downshifts to 1st with a jerk. Upshifts and downshifts involving 1st gear are the least smooth. Probably because 1st is super low and not a close ratio to 2nd. The jerkiness is normal -- right?

Many early 2014 'Justas' with automatics experienced ragged/jerky downshifts as well as cold engine drivability issues. Did not seem to be wide spread and was cured when the dealer was made aware of the situation. The fix was an up-grade to the software. Because my car was one of the first that the dealer serviced for these issues, the car was kept overnight to measure the effectiveness of the cold engine issues (gave me loaner Countryman). The result was immediate - no cold driving issues and the jerkiness of downshifts disappeared. However I can still induce the downshift issue if I keep even a little pressure on the gas pedal when coming to a stop.
Due to some knee and ankle problems I brake with my left foot. With all of the electronic controls and across-connections it is possible to confuse the car with a lazy right foot ( car: ok pal, do you want to stop, go, or what?) In addition, almost any car with an auto trans can be confused as to weather to shift up or down by varying pressure on the gas when maneuvering. Operating the trans in 'auto-stick' mode would likely eliminate this.

Mine downshifts to first right before I come to a stop only and in the Sport mode (I always use this) but it's not obnoxious or anything. It shifts out of first really quickly, more quickly than I used to with the manual.

I get a hesitation when I slow down for a moderately tight turn and then hit the gas a little sharply. It feels like a stall for a fraction of a second, then, whoosh, the throttle responds, the car gets in gear and the power is back.
