Lapisluxury Blue
In Mini Configurator there is a new Color: Lapisluxury Blue. What make it cost $1000 extra instead of $500 like the other metallic colors?

Its a MINI Yours color, so a little more special. Think BMW like individual color.
http://www.bimmertoday.de/wp-content...is-LIVE-01.jpg Look pretty nice in the pics. |
I would say it has to do with the paint, for example most Red Paint contains gold (yeap, real gold) and that raises the price of the paint. Maybe this blue has a new form of cobalt(II) oxide-aluminium oxide, or cobalt(II) aluminate in the pigmentation.
...it would be interesting to find out what it is that makes the paint so expensive. Motor on! |
People think if it's more expensive it's better, more special. Think Apple.
|
Interesting about the gold - I have never heard of that, and I am pretty certain that Chili Red paint does not contain a single speck of real gold.
I don't believe there is anything "special" about the paint itself, other than it is an "exclusive" color, like Highclass Grey, Reef Blue and Laguna Green before it. More limited in production and higher price = less on the road, potentially higher resale and collect-ability. Seems like a nice color, but I have yet to see it in person or compare it side by side to Deep Blue. |
well hello sexy. that's a gorgeous blue
|
That's a nice color. It's weird comparing it to the builder on MINI's site, the color in that picture resembles deep blue more closely. I saw the picture in this thread and thought it looked more cobalt blue than deep blue's more navy - but switching back and forth deep blue seems more cobalt to me and this seems more navy.
But what do I know? My wife sees colors much better than I do. |
Looks more like a cartoon-ish color, kind of like a brother to Volcanic Orange. (I ordered VO with white top by the way.)
I don't believe the gold increases price by $500 for the red. It's hard to believe that the material costs that much more. Maybe $50 more for the metallic material, then I'll think it makes sense. I think $1000 additional is just an exclusivity. |
" MINI Yours color " limited production.
I really like it , remember the lapis blue interior of the R53 Cooper S. |

That is an awesome blue. Really like it. Reminds me of a BMW blue... just can't remember the name.

LeMans Blue maybe? I had a 135i in LeMans and really liked the color. Looks good on the MINI. |

Oh man, MY FAVORITE interior option for the R53! Especially the bright blue carpeting! I was bummed when I got my 2005 R52/W11 and it was no longer available. Although my Blue Leather with orange stitching was cool, it was no Lapis Blue Leather. Wish MINI would bring back more funky interior options.
Retro fit the Lapis Blue carpet into your R52 , there is not much difference in the carpets. Lapis blue seats / lapis blue carpet was so cool. I like the sunrise blue / orange seats. And the rare sunrise blue leather with orange stitching. Hard to find. http://images.gtcarlot.com/pictures/47751922.jpg http://images.gtcarlot.com/pictures/68225535.jpg http://newbeetle.org/forums/attachme...e-sparky17.jpg I believe the blue inserts was the rarest in late 2007. Matching Electric Blue and Black cloth/leather seats in the convertible,. cant find any pics. |

Also hoping they will have it on display at the LA Auto Show in a few weeks. From what I have heard, MINI will have a pretty big display there this year introducing the 4-door Hardtop, the Superleggera Vision Concept and some other yet unnamed surprise showing! |

Awesome, its one of the few pics on NAM that shows the interior when new. Looks great with those rare seats. Remember when the R52 was lunched. Ah the good old days of Gen 1. ;) |
Lapis luxury blue at $1,000 strikes me as well named from BMW's profit maximizing perspective.

Did anyone take delivery of the new Blue ?
