At long last, my delayed F56 negotiated compensation from Mini revealed ...

More pictures later today, but the "keeping it under wraps and not telling anyone the details of what I negotiated" on my Mini F56 delay compensation can now be revealed.

I had written the corporate contacts provided back here with a strong email that whatever compensation provided should be equal and/or proportional to the length of the delay to all affected parties. The VP of Mini sales replied with an obvious individually written email (i.e. not a cut and paste same reply sent to anyone who sent an email that stated (paraphrasing) that Mini was not the typical car company and that because everyone's situations were different, any compensation would be individualized.

I let that cogitate for a while, and emailed back that I had bought a watercolor from an artist with the intent of having a portion of the art done as a wrap for my roof, and I would like them to underwrite the project.

The VP immediately wrote back and emphatically said Yes!

So, today, my Mini undertakes (the beginning?) of it's You-ification.

Here's a sneak peak posted to Mini's FB page: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

Mini has funded the purchase of the artwork, the initial wrap installation, and additional money to have it reapplied during my four year warranty period [the wrap shop says Southern CA sun is not 100% kind to horizontal vinyl surfaces, and likely may need periodic replacement, especially the perforated sunroof material].

P.S. Let me know if this link to the Mini USA FB post doesn't work -- it works for me, but I don't know if it will work for anyone else. If not, you'll just until it's done, and I get home to post more pictures.

Interesting stuff. If we can ask, what is the dollar amount of the compensation they agreed to you for? I think that's what everyone will want to know.

You can ask

But I'm staying quiet on the deal. I'll just say it was generous.

I've said it in other threads, but while the EPA delay was painful and frustrating, between the additional dealer negotiated discounts on the mess of my order going from 2014 to 2015, the Mini delay compensation, and the DriversEd discount and the repeat Mini owner loyalty credit (Mini Financial finance or lease required), I got a deal that just makes my jaw drop.

No offense intended but in that case, this seems more like a "like my project" thread than a "compensation" thread, for the reasons that most of us have no idea what a roof wrap is valued at and then, what number of folks would want a roof wrap as compensation in the first place? I think folks expect to see a dollar amount when they see '"compensation revealed" in the thread title. At least I did. Again, no offense intended.

Yep, probably posted bad thread title.

It was meant to be a project thread.

To me, all posting a dollar amount does is lead to some having hard feelings. It also goes against the philosophy that Mini had when they gave compensation that when you get right down to it, they really didn't have to do anything.

But I take no offense to your comments.

I expected to see the $ amount too, not a you-iffy-cation project. This will be my first MINI, and I don't like customizing.

Funding your vinyl sticker on the roof plus whatever additional $ looks like they are just using a tiny portion of their marketing money.

That's really cool, and if my ballpark guess is anywhere near the mark you just got one hell of a deal.

What is the artwork? Do you have a picture of it anywhere? The colors look like a great match for BRG2

Honestly, I think that sounds greatl. Very cool on MINI to fund the project, and cool idea of you to pitch this to them. Does it apply to everyone? Not a chance, but you found a way to get what you want.

Compensation is not always a dollar amount and that was actually the point of MINI "making good" with customers affected by the EPA delay. Ask and you may receive. You could ask for money, or you could ask for a trip to Disneyland. Everyone is unique and different and MINI is all about that. The dollar amount is completely irrelevant - he got what he wanted as said compensation. His reveal was just that - that he received this awesome wrap for his new MINI. CONGRATS!

It is awesome indeed! Kudos to him for being creative and honestly, that is probably why MINI said yes so quickly. They love things like that AND it will be good PR for them. As I have said many times, I don't feel like anyone is "owed" anything, but MINI was willing to help out those who felt that they were inconvenienced by the delay. You could ask for a discount, a car payment (or two), swag, accessories, maintenance upgrade assistance, etc. Every case was to be reviewed individually. Therefore, it was never about the dollar amount. There is just something wrong or, I hesitate to say, "American", about asking for $$.

Maybe it's just me.

That was exactly my first thought too. Something unique to draw attention to a new MINI - Of course corporate is all in. They are getting much more for their buck with that sort of compensation than with just giving someone $ off. Everyone wins. Customer is happy with the compensation and MINI is happy with the anticipated attention.

Wow, some of you are party poopers.

But I don't care.

Here are more pictures:

More pictures in the album for those who are interested. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rap-12244.html

And FYI, I was getting this done before the EPA delay, so it's dollars I was going to spend. For all of you that think this was Mini getting off easy or free advertising, get a life. It was $ that offset the cost of my car.

I second the couple other people and say Good on you for the creativity. And good for MINI for making it right for you. I think the graphic looks great.

My compensation was enacted on July 31 so I was probably on the bleeding edge of the whole compensation thing. It was before it was even considered compensation. It did not involve any money off or any freebies thrown in upon delivery. It was a result of me asking the dealer "what am I going to do now?" and them helping me with a predicament due to the hold becoming known just a day or two before I was due to take delivery. My "compensation" also benefitted my dealer. They flat out said so. So, do I feel cheated because the dealer also benefitted from my compensation - no. Do you feel cheated by the idea that MINI might see a benefit to your manner of compensation? You shouldn't.

And BTW, that wrap is fantastic!

I'd be remiss not to link to the watercolor artist site and show the original painting (which I purchased, along with explicit written rights to use on my car) ...

This is fantastic. A win for everyone. And I hope this doesn't sound too jaded, but it's the future of marketing- actually building relationships instead of repeating slogans at the masses! I like this way much more.

Looks really cool!

The fact that corporate is getting publicity from this is probably what helped you get it as compensation. I'm confident that the cost of this is significantly more than what other people have been getting. So it works out for all involved, really

looks great! i think this is a win-win. Mini will get some good publicity when people ask you about it and you'll probably enjoy it too.

Nice piece! Very individual. But the stripes clash - please remove them. Also I think you need to wrap the green away - with a nice pepper white.

I don't think I've seen anything done to a Mini anywhere near that unique. Pretty amazing that you found someone who could accomplish that task. What's too bad is that it's very difficult to appreciate it on the top of the car. You can only see the whole graphic from a ladder lol. If you were really brave you'd change the hood stripes to that pattern also!
