Smaller gas tank in F56?

Anyone else coming from an R56 notice that the gas tank is smaller? I thought I was going crazy having to fill up every 4 days compared to my last R56. Than I looked at the specs and saw that the gas tank is smaller. Why would they do this? The one thing I really liked about my last Mini was I didn't have to fill it up so frequently. Oh well, I guess I will have to utilize green mode more often.

It is smaller, I think the reason is higher MPG with the F56 means no reduction in miles per tank.

I guess that would hold true depending on how you drive it. In my R56 I drove in sport mode everywhere I went and averaged about 27 to 29mpg. I am draining the tank with the F56 in sport mode. I am going to give it a couple of more fill ups and some more break in miles before making a judgement on the fuel efficiency.

Yes fuel efficiency is far better in the F56 but the tank is so darn small now. Not that bad of a thing though, it costs just over $40 to fill now.

The evaporation canister is larger now and takes up more space where part of the fuel tank used to be. This is the reason I was told when asking an engineer from MINI.

I'm betting the days of 600+ miles on a tank are over.

One of the big reasons I passed. Even with the higher mpg, you can't get the same range you could on the R56. Of course, it's cheaper per fill up, but filling up more often is a pain. Oh well, hopefully it doesn't annoy you guys too much.

I average 350 miles per tank with my GTI. If I get close to that with my Mini I'll be content.

Just wanted to post my second fill up. I filled up with 1 bar left on the gas lights, and car telling me that I had about 64 miles of range left.

I got 362 miles on my last tank of gas, and filled up 9.8 gallons.

Just to put things into perspective for y'all coming to the F56 from the R56... I'm coming from a Jetta TDI in which I was capable of getting 700+ miles from a tank. So, it could always be worse.

I feel like I live at the fuel station now, I'm there so often. Totally worth it, though.

The fuel tank could be bigger on the F56 but they need the room under the car for that huge sideways mounted muffler. If BMW could make the fuel tank a couple of gallons bigger on the F56 like the R56, it would make a huge difference.

1.6 gallon difference? Likely also done to keep the weight change just a touch lower between generations.

Coming from a Golf TDI and not wanting to live at the gas station I've opted for a 5 gallon gas can.

Trust me, I know the pain of a small gas tank. My M Coupe had a 13.5 gallon tank and with two bikes on the roof, got 16-18 mpg. I had to fill up at every gas station I saw when dragging the bikes on road trips.

It sure does! I thought I was going crazy at first and then looked it up and compared the specs. I miss only having to fill up once a week like i did with my R56. I guess the positive is its cheaper on the fill ups. Other than that I am still really enjoying this car.

The R56 tank holds 14.2 US gallons. How much does the F56 hold? I'm guessing most of the improved mileage will be on the highway due to changes in the tranny. I noticed my 2014 R56 JCW AT going 75mph at 2500 RPM. My 2007 MCS manual was at 3000 PRM going 75 MPH.

Did I read in the manual that the Cooper has a 10.5 gallon tank and the S has 11.6?

R56 will hold 14.2, people have verified that over the years. They always leave it a little low for a fudge factor. So the new one is 1.6 gallons smaller. Gives you more leg room in the back seat!
