I am actually interested in mounting a topbox on my F56 MCS for trips. I like the looks of the Thule Aeroblade edge design compared to the Mini base rails. I like that they are available in black and they should be quieter too. It looks like you have the Thule configuration pictured below, please confirm.

I don't understand why Thule doesn't sale the rails as a pair. And for the money, throw in the keys. Talk about greedy.

Did you have to buy a fit kit or any additional attachments to get it to work with the mini?

You have the 7601-B which is the "Small" and "B" is black?

They make more money this way...gouging, lol. I did have to get a fit kit. They don't list one for the F56 yet so I got the kit for the Countryman which has the same rails. And yes 7601 is the smallest and B is black. Silver bar is also available.

The loud bars are loud and finding the locations for the Q-clips is a little tricky. I left mine on all through summer and just removed it recently since I think I'm done riding for the year.

The Q-clips did not cause any damage to the paint, although the vinyl stickers slid off a couple as I removed them. I'll probably just wrap them with electrical tape next year. The rubber around the roof trim went back to its original form and you can't tell they were ever there.

The Q-towers themselves left only minor swirls on my white roof which were only visible under the bright lights of a gas station at a certain angle. I'm very weird about swirls and scratches so I was pleased with their minimal impact. I washed the car and waxed the roof immediately before installing the rack. I also wiped off the rubber base of the Q-towers with some Meguiar's plastic protectant stuff.
Thanks for this post! I was talking to my MA and he didn't recommend using this set up because he was afraid the rubber trim would become distorted by the clips.

I have an old Yakima set up from my previous car that has all the correct parts except the clips! Good thing I never got rid of it!

One question though, I see on the Yakima site that the roof has an indent for the clips. I peeked under the trim but couldn't find it. Am I missing something?

Btw. Nice color combo! I have the same only no bonnet stripes.

You can't really see them, the measurement Yakima provides will help you find them. You can feel where they are when sliding the clips in.

yep, you won't be able to see them. Yakima recommends sliding a credit card back and forth until it drops into the recessed area where the clips will go.

the measurements they gave weren't a huge help since the front edge of the Mini roof is curved so I didn't really know where to measure from.

Great! I'll do that once I get the clips! Thanks for the clarification.

I have the Mini OEM roof support (maybe a rebranded Thule bar?) for my 2015 MCS ...

Anyone attach a fairing in front? If so, what brand is recommended and size?

I am looking to purchase the Thule Aeroblade for my 2017 MCS F56. Mine does not have any rails or roof rack right now. Can this be installed on a car that doesn't have rails? If so, how wide of an aeroblade should I be buying?

Thanks!

I have Thule 48" long Round bars on my 2015 F56. I think the length is perfect, though a couple inches shorter would be okay too. I would not go wider. The F56 has notches under the rubber seal that hold the clips for the Thule feet. I keep mine on in the summer, to hold the Kayak, but usually take them off in the winter.

Great to hear it. I spent a little research time this morning and all I was finding where Aeroblades installed on cars with roof racks.

Someone nearby is selling a set that is 43" wide. I imagine that is too narrow?

They would probably work. There would not be much overhang, but, you should verify the feet for the Aeroblades. I am not sure show they fit on the roof. With the round bar, it would be fine.

roof racks

Have any of you guys tried Seasucker racks? I use one on my Porsche and it is flawless. If I still had my '15 S hardtop, I would use this rack.

I think I misread your reply. Looks like your reply was just confirming that the round bars fit the F56.

Can anyone confirm where the aeroblades fit a 2017 F56 without a roof rack?

I know this thread is relatively old, but I found it helpful. I found myself out in the boonies (and temporarily at a hotel between gigs), needing more space. I have a trailer hitch on my F56, but didn't want to waste $$ to rent a UHaul for the length of time I needed. So I did my research and decided to make the SeaSucker leap! I bought the cross bars that fold up, as well as a Rolla cage and waterproof bag, had it all sent to me at the hotel and inadvertently shanghaied a bored fellow guest to help me put it together (in a storm, at night, under the entrance overhang. 😁 I just can't be "normal.")

I. Am. Impressed. Did an 8-hr road trip at 70-80MPH in high winds with no issues. I can remove the rig easily myself, and no marks on the roof. The back end of the roof was a little tricky -- had to slide the suction cup closer to the pano sunroof because of the curvature at that spot -- but everything went extremely well. As directions say, I double checked the suction status at every stop, but I do that anyway (discovered huge bubble in my tire once, and made it a habit.) The wind noise was a little loud at first, as I wasn't used to it, but it still wasn't bad at all. Funny, but I could hear the zipper pulls clinking together just above me, over the wind noise, windows down noise, and radio, so the rig's noise obviously can't be THAT bad! And these can fit any car, so I can use them on Husband's BMW X4 or our truck too. Very sweet deal - thanks for the suggestion!

@DeepBonnet Hey, I'm considering a 2015 2 door S with no roof rails. I'm wondering how that arrangement for the Yakima worked out for you? Any issues? I may not be able to stiff find the clips, but if I can I'll have to go this route. Otherwise, I have to kill the deal and find one with roof rails.

I am not DeepBonnet, obviously, but I did manage to put together the same setup. I can confirm it does fit my 2018, and feels solid. It just caused too much wind noise for me, so never mounted my "generic" basket. Then I noticed folks saying that wrapping a bungee around the crossbars helped to cut the wind noise, so I may actually fit it again and give that a shot. It's definitely nice to have external cargo options. If I had ordered my 2018 F56S new, I definitely would have ordered it with the roof rails. Buying used, well.....you know how that goes. LOL. Don't let the lack of factory roof rails keep you from purchasing a great car.
