Same thing happened to a guy making a video review. I bet the CR guy was just playing copy cat. Normally it take a lot of force to get the shifter off. Not sure what the deal is.
That is a new security measure. They found out that there is a .0027 percent chance that a car thief MAY now how to drive a stick and this is an included function to thwart any subsequent attempt. The tester may have had an evil thought in his head about what he could do with his test car.
this will happen to anyone who pulls up on it hard enough, which sometimes happens on the 1-2 shift where you are pulling back and slightly "up" w/ respect to where the shifter is
I remembered seeing that in another review and I tested it out on mine. Rock solid, I couldn't get it to budge at all. I can't even figure out how someone would apply upward force during a shift.

I kind of disagree with respect to 'pulling' up when shifting from 1-2. I feel it's more of a 'pulling' down feeling. Ultimately it's all in how one holds the shifter **** while shifting I think. Personally, I feel this shifter shifts like butter so much so that I barely have to touch the **** at all. I can't imagine how anyone could 'pull' up or down so hard while shifting that the **** actually comes off

when you pull back for the 1-2, the shifter is angled less than 90 degrees, part of the force exerted on the **** is an upward force - do the whole thing hard enough, say while you're racing and adrenaline is pumping, and it happens from time to time. like i said though, it's never happened on my 08 so perhaps it is a manufacturing tolerance thing.
Actually... it happened to me as well, I just put light pressure up and back on the shift lever while enjoying the ride and it popped right off... if I didn't know it could happen it would have definitely shocked me.

If this is true then the **** should be coming off on 3-4 shifts and 5-6 shifts too, since they are the same motion. I hope my **** doesn't come off now!! Hahaha Knock on wood!!!

obviously you are not of the autoxing ilk - and I would say 1-2 is a little more intense than 3-4, and 5-6 should never be used when racing. it is definitely true that it will happen if you pull too hard, that's just how it is. it's not as worry-free as a threaded shiftknob where you can really tear through gears. racing is a little different than casual driving, or even "spirited" driving. things happen. not a big deal. not sure what your point is. should it not happen? yes. does it happen? occasionally, yes.

My point? Lol I guess if there is a point to this thread it's that a shifter **** shouldn't be coming off during a shift! Lol And no, I'm not an autoxer... I'm a drag racer.... I guess it's just individual driving styles that lead to this ? I just hope my **** doesn't come off!
