F55/F56 Field trip to MINI Shunjuku (Tokyo)
Field trip to MINI Shunjuku (Tokyo)
Hi guys-
The first post of my very own here. I have an S on order, and am a brand new baby in the MINI world. Very much enjoying it so far, and the car isn't even here!
I'm in Tokyo now on a little family vacation, so it occurred to me I should do what I used to do with Honda- go see the Japanese take on it. Of course MINI is not the name Honda is here, but they have a good handful of showrooms in Tokyo, and a couple of magazines devoted to the brand. I went to the showroom nearest to us, in Shinjuku, which is pretty much your Tokyo Times Square. Although actually for some reason the showroom is in the government district. Under a Denny's.
They had a Clubman, and Countryman, and a new base model on display. A bunch of the usual knick-knacks- I don't think I saw anything that was unique to Japan. Maybe the little penny racers, but I didn't look too close because nothing was F56. The place was small, as expected, with one MA there. I grabbed a promotional poster, a very basic tri-fold brochure, and a MINI International magazine. Is this available internationally actually? It's all in Japanese, with a special "Japan" section at the end with a few articles about Japanese owners, etc.
In the past, I was really interested in all things JDM with Honda, and now I'm getting kinda into the idea of the Japanese take on the English MINI. It's fun to see a 3rd culture interpret such an icon. It'll be interesting to see what wheels and accessories come out for the F56. I'd love a set of flat-black Watanabes on mine.
=)

Near Shinjuku JR station. A beautifully clear afternoon today.

Mostly office buildings around here, but there it is, under the green Denny's.

Goodbye!

Swag =)
