I always recommend Mazdas to friends who want to purchase new, well made, reliable vehicles. But if the person is a true driver (on a budget)- who demands daily smiles behind the wheel and likes to glance back over their shoulder after their car is parked (to admire timeless style)..... well then only one Mazda could be uttered in the same sentence as a Mini. The Miata.
For the true driver other Mazdas cannot compete. Of course you might need a rental or second car to haul stuff about (like people)

The Miata was my 2nd car on the list, lol. I ended up passing because they're dragging their feet on redesigning it, which it desperately needs. The gas mileage to performance ratio is awful and the interior is very dated by today's standards.

More fun to drive than the F56 though, IMHO.

The ND will be shown in September, released early next year. I had an NB, and you're right, the interior is lacking (although the NC's were a lot better, but still a little shabby) and they do get awful mileage for what they are.

But as you stated, terrific to drive, the only other things I'd put in the same category are the BRZ/FRS and the Cayman/Boxster.

I'm shocked, but I just bought a 2014 Mazda 3 i Grand Touring! They just happened to have the colour I wanted (blue reflex mica) in a manual. It just came in and has only 3 miles on it! Also, this one was made in Japan, so I guess they are still switching over to the Mexico production. Sad to leave MINI after 8 years and 2 cars, but it will also be a nice change. Here's hoping the gen 4 will pull me back to MINI, but for now I'm going to enjoy all the extras and space of the Mazda. Now I have a decent commute I feel it will be better in the long run and now I can fill up regular gas ha.

Congrats on finalizing your choice - it must be a relief. I hope I'm as happy and relieved when my new Mini comes. I'm taking a chance on uncertain reliability for soul and driving pleasure - and my absolute addiction to turbos. My car with more space experiment ended badly (Range Rover Evoque)....I got bored when the new car smell wore off!

It's a good choice They get just as good of gas mileage as the F56 Cooper but don't need premium fuel. Plus it's undeniable that the new 3 is a beautiful car.

I've owned two Miatas and certainly enjoyed both. I will give the new model a close look when it comes out. So many cars, so little time!
