I gave up on my MINI at 161K. The transmission failed. I replaced it with a used transmission and also replaced the clutch plate assy. $5,500 worth. Then something in the shifter broke and that was a couple hundred to fix. Then I got caught in a hail storm. $9K in damage. I decided the car was just too worn out and traded it in for a car that I'm embarrassed to admit I own. But it is better than the MINI in every way except for the fun factor.

I loved driving the MINI for every mile. But...

To settle the oil change interval debate (right): I changed the oil when the car told me to, every 11K miles or so, including the first oil change. Never had a problem.

Just traded in my f56 after 3yr lease.
I drove it like I stole it everyday.
I have not encountered any problems.

161k on a transmission seems like it did its duty!

Wonder how much longer the transmission would have lasted with some routine fluid changes. Don't know what Conrad_Thomaier did as far as that but I'm guessing he went by whatever MINI recommends which I think is "lifetime".

Not much you can do about the hail damage.
