F55/F56 The Color Purple...er...red
The Color Purple...er...red
Okay, now that MINI has done the unforgiveable, I'm going to have to pick a color almost as good as my beloved Chili Red. I don't know what Blazing Red looks like--anyone care to describe it, compared to CR? More orange, burgundy, or what? Does it look as good with a white roof as CR does?
Nearest dealer is still hours away, so I don't have anything to look at. C'mon, MINI of Little Rock. Open. Open. O-P-E-N!

Blazing Red is more burgundy and boring to me. Makes me think of old lady cars. I was kind of on the fence when I ordered my CM in Pure Red since I really wanted Chili Red, but it has a personality of its own and I've grown to love it. If the only option had been Blazing Red when I ordered, I would have gone with True Blue instead.
On the F56, I'm not sold on any of the colors. Maybe BRG? Not crazy about the blue either, seems too dark.

My understanding is that Chili Red has become a JCW-exclusive color, so it hasn't gone away completely.
Here's a photo I found on MotoringFile of Blazing Red with a white roof. It's not the same as the CR/W combo, but it's not really burgundy either.

The Blazing Red I saw in person (which was a R60, not a F56) was nowhere near that bright, though I think it had a black roof, which always makes the paint look a little darker.
Except for mine being an MCS, that looks like mine will be. They showed me a Paceman on the sales floor in Blazing Red. I questioned if it was really metallic, and they said it was. Would have preferred the Chili Red, but am still happy with my choice.
Blazing Red is fantastic in person IMHO.
Slightly darker than Chili Red and with a hint more orange in it. It's also metallic. I was never a big fan of Chili Red so this might not mean much, but I like Blazing Red a lot more.

I agree that Blazing Red is slightly more orange than burgundy, at least this morning outdoors under a cloudy sky. I agree also that the configurator doesn't give an adequate picture - you'll have to see it in person to judge.
JCW? Yeah, right. Hubby wanted me to get a Justa, back in '07. My guess is they'll come back with CR at some time. It would be nice if it were sooner, rather than later.
I would say that Chili Red has a touch of blue in it and Blazing Red has a touch of yellow, but it is not an orangey red. You will need to see it in person. Hope you can see the metal flakes in it more than my wife and I did.
One of the things I liked about CR was that it was a pure color, NOT metallic. I've had plenty of them over the years.
My impressions of the f56 colors in person:
To echo what's already been said, Blazing Red is maroon orange metallic. It looks like a darker metallic Chili Red with orange hues in sunlight. Didn't look great in person imo as I prefer a bold nonmetallic automotive red.
I was very impressed with Deep Blue in person. It's a good pure metallic blue that's just dark enough to go well with any roof configuration.
White silver is not a misnomer. It is an extremely pale hue of silver. Black or monochrome roof only.
Thunder gray is an interesting dark gray that almost seems nonmetallic. It looked even better on a cloudy rainy day.
I actually think the high resolution photos from the Puerto Rican launch represented Volcanic Orange well. It seemed more orange and less yellow in person. It's definitely ostentatious yet not obnoxious. But I could see one quickly growing tired of it.
I haven't seen BRG or PW f56s in person but those are hardly new
And like most of the world I've also never seen the new chocolate metallic or Moonwalk Gray in person. Looks like they added MWG to the USA configurator yesterday.

A LOT of orange, according to my monitor. Doesn't look like what I want.
When I was at the dealer to place my order they had a paint sample, but looked pretty red to me. The photo I posted was off the dealer website so the exposure could be off.
Having worked a lot with colors, color matching and the like, colors look different to different people. Different light sources can have a profound effect in colors. Red and yellow make orange, so I still think Blazing Red is a red, but with a hint of yellow. But you really have to be there. ;-)
If you go to the Configurator for the Paceman, both colors are offered, so you can compare them. Presumably the colors are correctly identified, so I'd say the Blazing Red has the hint of blue and the Chili Red has the hint of yellow -- the reverse of what I had thought before.

To be honest guys and gals......
BRG II is the color to choose, why would you want a Go-Kart on Steroids in any other color?
And the metal flake pops.
Not exactly like a Bass Boat as stated earlier, but pops none the less!

And I really don't like dark cars, for a variety of reasons--heat and visibility being a couple.
Yeah, well, I can't tell the difference. Probably called Schwarzwald Gruen, or something like that.
(I just checked--Deep Green Metallic--but that's German for British Racing Green, right?)

You guys are getting me confused with all this color speak. It's starting to remind me of winetasting descriptions. I was set on the Volcanic Orange or Brown. Now I think I'm gonna have to view them in person, including the BRG and the blue.
