Reliability of new 3 cyl , 4 cyl turbos vs. Prince turbo engines

Does anyone have info on the reliability of the Prince turbo engine vs. the 2 new turbo engines in the 2014 F56 Mini Hardtop?

What should we expect about carbon buildup, timing chain, etc?

The new engines are reportedly either half (1.5L 3cyl) or 2/3 (2.0L 4cyl) of the BMW straight 6 3.0L engine they've used in the 3 series cars for years. The Prince engines were made by Renauld. Of course we don't know about their reliability, they're new. BMW is going to use their platform in upcoming Beemer models too. That's why you get a warranty.

Ask again in a couple years.....
With every new motor, companies always claims that they have worked to solve/prevent issues of prior designs....
Great things were expected from the "prince" motors....we all know how that turned out!!

No one is capable of answering that question yet, not even MINI. You will just have to wait and see. Although one thing you can count on is carbon buildup, any DI engine will have that issue as there is no fuel flowing over the valves to help keep them clean...
