The 2015 FOBs will be coming in electric neon with a gold chain attached
so you can where them casually and formally.
They will be chipped so their exposure is recorded.
Wear points will be awarded in relation to exposure time.
These wear points will be redeemable at your Mini dealer for
Mini accoutrements.

It came right off (and looked like crap anyhow). Seemed like a good idea at the time. :-)

That looks an excellent shape, but aren't 3D printing materials fairly non-durable? A pocket or purse is a relatively harsh environment for abrasion.

I wonder how much CNC milling it out of aluminum would cost? A tool and die place would likely have a costly up front fee, but maybe make up for it in volume?

I'd be happy with the same black plastic as the original -- only slimmer.

Since I don't have my car and FOB yet I can't take the old cap off. But I suspect there is some "flex" involved looking at the tab in the drawings / pictures I have seen. Thus, I would suspect that an aluminum replacement cap might be problematic, but of course that would vary based on shape and thickness.

A bit of pressure on the fob would activate the button that opened the trunk! So now the fob stays in my shirt pocket while in the car and I sent a nastygram to Mini that the dash warning didn't say the "boot" was open!
Thanks for solving my problem! I kept getting the warning as well. Now I know the cause

Surprisingly it just slides out. It took mine almost no pressure at all to remove.

I suspect we'd be looking at a lot of money for a CNCed version, but I would pay every penny for it.

Wanted to bump this thread to ask if there was any progress on the FOB external cover fabrication front.

I would be interested in a pair. I'm using the JCW NRC fob and a leather cover for my second one

I'm not quite understanding the issue with the factory FOB. Mine is always in my pocket and the size is a non-issue. Does making it a tad smaller matter that much? Just curious.

I'd like a smaller surround. I thought I had a guy ready to 3D print one, but it fell through.

Count me in for being a beta tester, and I'd be willing to contribute to fund a "final" batch, if there's enough interest.

I also have access to friends with various 3D printers. If the couple folks here who appear to have the plan files ready are willing to share em, I can see about getting some protos made up, see if particular printers/materials work better than others, etc.

I'm trying to get in touch with Half Shot but I haven't heard back yet. I've got a printer up and running so I'm just waiting on his approval to use the design (and to get the STL file) before I start trying it out.
