Yes please! I'd love a solid metal fitting!

Good These are worth way more than you're charging for them. No reason not to make a good chunk of money off them.

I'm really looking forward to seeing these printed in metal.

Big extra however is that its also available in polished metals.
Will do my best to finish this revesion this weekend.
Perhaps some of the mini owners are willing to test it ?

Happy to test and review on MotoringFun.com for you - let me know

Perfect, really appreciated !!
Now lets see if Shapeway is consistent in producing these, now becoming rather large amounts of more than 125 orders.
Also very interested if there is any difference in production in Europe and America.
I have ordered my production sample in aluminum which will arrive the 18th.

As far as I know they make them individually per order and the machines they use are more than $100k each. It should be very consistent.

just lo let you know,
I posted a link to the key on Shapeways on a F56 forum in Germany and got some response about to first let know a moderator about possible sale intentions.

Its not my intention to get a financial gain out of this.
Its a service , one time only, was for my personal use intended and was nor never will be with a business intention in mind.

devries, you've done something great and I personally think you should get a financial gain out of this. That's how it works. You create something people want and appreciate and we buy it. Why shouldn't you make money? Mini made money selling us the car, and you've improved it.

I don't know about all forums, but becoming an entry level sponsor is not to involving from my understanding, and then you could easily market this, you have at least another 5 years to milk it before they change the key. :P

I wouldn't worry about it. If the moderators have a problem with it they'll let us know.

I received mine in black yesterday. Perfect fit but a little fragile. I broke off one of the small tabs during installation. A small dab of silicone fixed the problem. It could be a little thicker (like the 2nd generation version?) but, overall, I'm very happy with the cover.

Regards,
Alan

The first fit is somewhat tight so for everyone be carefull in attaching it.
The material Shapeways uses is called "strong and flexible" but i guess it has its limits.
Revison 2 is indeed 0.3mm thicker. Could you post a picture of what part was troublesome ?

I'm also very interested in how the top round part looks, does it have the same small bumps i have, or is Shapeway now able to print it without bumps.

The circled tab in first picture shows the tab that broke off in the new cover. I also attached a few other pictures.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'small bumps'. The outer surface is kind of fuzzy. That's my best description. Not smooth. Not textured. Fuzzy.

Got mine on Friday, took some finesse and jiggling but it's a billion times better than the clunky plastic we have. Thanks a bunch!

Nice , even with more detailing than my "chili red" one from September last year.

Every time i look at the old circular one it reminds me somehow of a Starship Voyager spaceship. ( perhaps someone could ad warp-drive to it ;-) )
It also broke real quick after i let it bump down the stairs.

small tabs at the top broke off after falling.

Perhaps we now have discovered the weakest point in the key-design.
Not sure how to improve that.
Perhaps metal printing is the way.
The question is if the metal would reduce the signal strength of the key.

Just curious how long it is taking from placing an order to receipt for those on here who have ordered.

Thanks so much!

Looks awesome! Depending on the material you had it printed in there are options to smooth it out some.

Not sure how Shapeways handles these orders, i have no influence on the production and delivery.
Perhaps it has something to do with where you are at , or what type material?
I ordered mine on the 5the, and delivery was expected the 18te , but just got an email it has been ship already with delivery tomorrow.
