Transmission Squealing in 1st and 2nd gear!!
 

Hello everyone, I bought my wife a 2015 mini cooper s 4 door for xmas and she loves it. It was a certified used deal with an extension until 2021. We left the dealer and drive across the Golden Gate bridge with about 45 miles of driving up the coast. I pull into a gas station and I hear a squealing noise coming from the front left of the engine bay-we hadn't owned the car for an hour yet! I turn to my wife and give her that look since I sold a trouble free Lexus to get this car. The next day, no noise-I try and try and nothing. 2 weeks go by and I pull into a car wash and the noise comes back, only when I am shifting 2nd to 1st or 1st to 2nd. I bring it in to the local dealer and they keep it for 1 day with a final diagnosis of "loose front cowl" secured and tested. I am suspicious that it is a engine bearings or transmission problem so I ask for a service history report. The mains had been replaced at 7k.
Another month goes by and we bring it back for the same thing...Nothing, dealer not able to duplicate. So last week I decided to listen to my wife and drove it to work and back. On the way home the squeal came back and I drove it straight to the dealer with the high pitch noise very audible. You should have seen the faces of the customers shopping in the lot when I came chirping up the dealer entrance! I asked the lead service advisor to go for a ride with me and he was able to hear and witness the loud noise. They kept the car for 5 days...Final verdict=REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY! Only 36k on the car. So if your car is exhibiting similar issues don't let the dealer off the hook. I'm very pleased with the way it drives now and rest a little easier knowing we have the extended warranty!!
